Tic not ticks!

I didn't want to take over another thread here, but something in the thread about how a T reacts when you cry made me want to post this question in it's own thread. I've actually wanted to ask it for little while now, but never got around to it.

Does your T have any distracting movement or thing that they do in session that makes you wonder what the heck they do it for? My T, for example, has this thing where he's otherwise perfectly calm and relaxed but he will sometimes repetitively touch his thumb to the tip of each of his fingers on his left hand. It's not an extremely obvious or annoying thing to me, but it often catches my attention when he's doing it and makes me wonder what is causing him to do it. Is it him trying to keep himself grounded in the moment? I he focusing nervous energy into that? Is he excited about some topic we are on and doesn't even know he's doing it?

I have yet to be brave enough to ask, "Hey, what's that all about?"
Also, it's like a puzzle for me to figure out. I think eventually I will trace the reaction to something happening in the room and I will have an answer, then I can ask him if it's correct.
Thanks for this!

Good question!! Cuz I can see how I was trying to justify it to the OP and that was not good. My ts have all been ticless. Probably I drive them crazy with mine tho.

Interesting what you're describing is actually a neurological test...I have to do it with my pdoc and previously with a neurologist. He may have been trained to do it and is now doing it absentmindedly.

I have actually had a suspicion it may be medical related.

My T doesn't make any weird movements or fidget in any way. She used to say things in a sing-song sort of way, on occasion. I teased her about it a little bit once, very gently. I said I feel like I'm in a musical sometime and said something about not noticing she does that. She did it less and less and stopped. Then, I felt bad. I hope she didn't think I was being critical or change because of me. I found it endearing. Anyway, that is the only thing that I ever noticed, but she doesn't do that anymore.
Thanks for this!

My T smirks a lot and I don't think she realizes it because I will be in the middle of talking and then I look at her and she's smirking, so I always laugh and she always asks what is so funny? Once I actually said to her "you're smirking, you do it all the time did you know that?" and she didn't like that role reversal very much, lol.

my old t didn't have an tics, but she does do this thing where she will slip into this mock accent when she is trying to be humorous. like, *deep mock italian accent* you must breathe, anna". its kind of funny and kind of annoying.

My current T is ticless. However my exT had a VERY annoying ughhumm response to about everything I said. Oh it drove me nuts!
