How long had you been in therapy before you stopped seeing your therapist once a week? How long was it before you ended therapy? Was it your therapist's suggestion and were you okay with it?

I go to the state run facility for free so it was only like six months before I went to every other week, but I have been going for over three years. t hasn't said anything about terminating me though I sometimes wonder why I am going

My T and I have never been on a set schedule. He has always had me just schedule as seems fit at the time. That has meant most of the time we've roughly been on a one to two week schedule, but that varies. In a crisis, I might see him two or three times a week for a week or so. At other times when things are stable, it may be 3 weeks or more between sessions. I find it makes for very appropriate pacing of our sessions rather than the constraint of a strict one week schedule.

Thus, we never talk about termination as our sessions ebb and flow pretty naturally as needed. I suspect he'll retire in the next few years and things will come to their natural conclusion at that point.
Thanks for this!

I feel your pain. Between my husband's illness and loss of income and the medical bills, therapy is on a hiatus for a bit around here too. It's okay though. As stressful as life is right now, I'm handling it as well as can be expected. Signs that therapy has been working actually.

It is different for every person depending on what you are going through, what kind of progress you are making, things like that. I've been in therapy for eight years and have gone back and forth between once a week, twice a week, three times a week. It is very individualized.

I always had double sessions (2 sessions at one time, equivalent to twice a week) for the nine years I was in therapy.

I've been going for six months now, once per week. I don't see that changing anytime soon.
