so I posted a few days ago about requesting a break from therapy. I'm now on that break. I did not go Monday, and I will not go again next Monday. I'm back after that.

I'm going to deviate from what I seem to read as the norm here and say; I LOVE NOT going!

That's right! I said it. LOVE NOT GOING!!!!!!!!!

No rushing off my shift with no break because I have to get in all that BS traffic. No paying a (semi-ridiculous) amount out-of-pocket cos I don't have insurance. No dealing with my friggin feelings and getting embarassed in front of a young stranger. No listening and trying not to laugh (it's disrespectful) when the therapist utters all that corny psycho-babble they speak. It's a VACATION!!!!!!

Praise be unto the Flying Spaghetti Monster for this break!

I am glad it is going well for you. I also enjoy taking breaks from therapy.

@stopdog. I'm glad I'm not the only one who greatly enjoys this. So many posts I read indicate that many feel lost without their therapist. I wondered if I would too. But I've had therapists before and it never bothered me that much not to go.

Precisely! You know what would be interesting? To find out what the gender break-down is among people who enjoy the break-taking and those who barely get through it. I'm female. But it seems many females don't like the breaks. Or to look the diagnoses break-down. or even to look at the Myers-Briggs personality break down. Do 'I's prefer to take more breaks as opposed to 'E's? so many interesting questions.

Why not post a poll? I am a lesbian who sees a straight female therapist, INTP, with no real diagnosis or problem other than what is probably most accurately described as middle class ennui. I take no medications nor do I see any type of md.

I'm on a holiday break from therapy as well and it was much needed. A couple of heavy sessions that really need time to sink in before I'm ready to talk and go back. It's weird how you can go from being in despair about not having an appointment every week to enjoying the non-appointment weeks.

I do think that might be called growth.

Gosh I'm so jealous! But I too would be interested to see if it was a gender thing or what. I'm holding out to get where you folks are. Now that would be fantastic. Enjoy your break.

Well this is my 2nd day of a 10-day break. I think he hasnt been gone for longer than a weekend for almost a year. I am enjoying myself, finding the energy to do the little things around the house I always say I want to do but somehow never find the motivation. I'm alternating housecleaning and exercise days, roughly. Trying not to get too pooped out either way. But still do enough to make a noticeable difference in my life.

I haven't seen my T for an individual session in nearly 5 weeks. It's the longest I've gone without a session in the last 4+ years of therapy....and the break came right after a major rupture that almost ended in him terminating me, but then reconsidering and us working to repair....So...

At first, I seemed quite ok about it....then, I started feeling anxious about the break and counting the days....Now, I'm feeling so distant from him, my feelings, my issues, my work and have no interest in delving back into it...but part of me misses him. It's a roller coaster for me, really.

I'm thinking it may be a defense mechanism at work, but I can't be too sure.

Oh, and I'm a straight female seeing a male T.

Day 3 - I finally got to arranging flowers for the top of my air conditioner. I soaked the floral foam last night, washed out the containers that have been sitting for probably a couple of years. I bought flowers on Wednesday so it was getting past time. So I tried to make a Steven and Chris type arrangement like they have on their desk on the tv show, only a little bigger - low white flowers - yeah mine looks like a funeral blanket for a dead cat. With the cat. Well Morticia Addams would like it I guess. RIP Fluffy. Different container next time! Or different flowers. Different something.

One thing I did when on break was not tell them at work, pretend things were as usual and take the time off for myself :-)

I hear ya! That's the thing about feelings - they ebb and flow.

For me, a lot of it depends on what's going on in my life at the moment and whatever recollection of T I call up at a particular time. When I think about the rupture, I feel protective and want to hide. When I think about when he's caring towards me, I miss him. When I think about the work I have to do, I shut down.
