Again it is not always the client who is at fault.

Not sure I understand the point of this article. Other than a catchy title, and a few isolated bad experience stories, the bulk of the article seems to be standard advice about choosing a T who's licensed, the role of insurance, and a few studies comparing anti-depressants to therapy (in which therapy comes out as a favorable choice.)
Thanks for this!

I don't think they are all that isolated.

Yeah re ^feralkitty^ and they only stated you should see a psychologist, psychologist or licensed clinical social worker. Where I live, social workers are less trained in counseling than licensed clinical/professional counselors and marriage and family therapists, and those two types of licensed therapists make up the majority of therapists here. Off of this board, of the number of people I have talked to in real life who have counselors, almost all have had good experiences and have found it very helpful.

Re: #1...If you DO have insurance, a therapist's rate matters not at all because insurance writes some of it off and will only pay them a set amt (which actually isn't very much as I have seen in my therapists' case), and I pay my set copay (assuming they are in-network.)

Re: "However, experts say handling insurance is currently still cumbersome for practices — and that the best therapists are increasingly the ones who won’t even accept insurance."

Who experts? That statement is CRAP.

And I can't WAIT to pay a higher copay...thanks, Obama!

I also doubt bad therapy stories are isolated (we have seen a ton on this board alone)...I am sure they are just as prevalent as bad stories about doctors in any area...specialist, GP, etc.

camel, where did you find that quote? It doesn't match the #3 in the article linked to by the original poster.

I agree. From both personal and professional experience (I'm not a T but my profession frequently collaborates and/or sees the work of Ts.

Most people have little trouble thinking there are bad doctors, or laywers, or accountants. and lots of others professionals. But some people have a hard time believing that Ts can be bad and seem to have a presumption that the T is right except for rare occasions.

Camel is referring to another article with the same title. I read it earlier and find it more interesting and funny than the prev. one listed. This is the one Camel was referring to:

attentionThis is an old thread. You probably should not post your reply to it, as the original poster is unlikely to see it.
