My therapist has offered to make a voice recorded meditation CD to help me sleep. Has anyone used any good apps for this? (I'm speaking to you, TinyRabbit...what did your therapist use to do your memo and do you think it could be used for longer recordings?)

Hello! My T used the voice memo app on my iPhone, which just comes with the phone I think. I believe it can record up to 20 minutes in one audio file. There's nothing to stop you from using more than one file and burning them onto the same CD.

You can plug the phone into a computer or email the files to yourself, so you can then burn it onto CD. I think the quality comes out pretty well.

I love the idea of having a meditation CD. That sounds brilliant.

My T did this for me (though shorter) and we, too, used the voice memo app on the iPhone - it was simple to transfer to my computer, too, which allowed me to put it on a CD and my iPad, etc.

Another option would be to record it onto Garage Band on a Mac (open the program and choose podcast) - this would allow it to be hours long! Sorry, don't know about Windows programs.

My T did this 2 years ago and I'd kind of forgotten about it recently. Yesterday in session she reminded me of the recording and I listened to it last night - was very helpful!

OH I would so love my T to do that. His voice soothes and calms me. I would be way to embarassed to ask.

The voice memo app on iPhone/iPod Touch can record continuously for hours no problem.

My T has previously given me pre-recorded CDs she made of hypnosis/meditation, I found them very relaxing and my sleep improved.

Thanks everyone. I also found a free app called VoiceRecord Pro that allows you record in small pieces then you can tack them into one large file. This would allow the recording to be made in small pieces instead of one long session. You can also convert the file to mp3 which saves space. Between that and the memo recorder, there are some good options.

I have the iPod touch 5G, I think it's just how it works? There doesn't seem to be any limit as long as there's space. Maybe it only allows shorter recordings on the iPhone...? hmm

There's a free program out there called Audacity (just google the name). Real easy to use, works with Mac and Windows. If you have a computer and a mic, you can record anything and even edit it. Then you save the file as an mp3 or wav and it can be emailed, uploaded, etc.

BTW I LOVE the idea of T making a recorded meditation - I wonder if my T would do that for me - I'm scared to ask for fear of him saying no however.

I have a cd have my t leading a gradual muscle relaxation.. It is about 10-15mins long.. I haven't used it much these days, but when I first started seeing him and my anxiety was terrible, I was nice to have that outlet and even better that it was in my own t's voice.
