I know it's the psychotherapy board, but it seems to me the psychiatrist is pretty vital to overall success. I am really lucky to have found a good one, who is actually very "normal"

I had 2 - well, weirdos.... One almost killed me by not telling me i cannot drink grapefruit juice with a certain med, i ended up in the ER with a tachycardia and hysteria. The second said i am bipolar (I am no near bipolar!!) and insisted on giving me mood stabilizers which only made me feel worse. For the past 2 years i had a good one, until he came up with the idea i have BPD (Which i do not! I don't even score 4 symptoms and you have to have at least 5 to even think you're maybe a BPD). He cannot even see the difference between ADHD and BPD. So i stopped seeing him. Now I have a new one....we'll see how it goes.

Depends what is meant by 'strange'. There is a difference between being 'odd' and being incompetent (e.g. not informing re side effects, not open minded, being obtuse etc.).
i don't think they have the monopoly on strangeness per se but yes, as in any profession, there are 'duds'. |

I have always found pdocs to be professional and confident. I have had my fair share of bad ones but never thought them strange or doubted their ability to treat me.

Yes! The one I have now is not only strange, he is horrible & barely communicates. In fact I will not see him, I will only see the NP. He told me Cymbalta only acts on Norepinephrine.....Now I know everyone can make a mistake...he should know the drugs he is prescribing very well....he is prescribing psych meds.
I saw one a while ago at a very high ranked Ivy league hospital system....she was arguing w/ me about having an ED...I was just thin...So i said to her "well you must have one as well because i am sure you would fit into my clothing". Totally pointless. I was DEPRESSED and had no ED symptoms. ![]()
