I'm new here but have been a recent lurker. This forum has been really insightful. I came across it while researching grad programs (I've been considering a future career switch to become a therapist).
I'm seeing my T this afternoon for what should end up an intense session. She is great and I've seen her for 7 years now. She is coming in on her day off to meet with me. I have a secret that is something I've held for 20 years and think I'm ready to talk about. This is on the heels of a pretty awful session yesterday that left me for the first time ever leaving her office feeling worse than when I got there. She knows I have a secret (it has recently come up that it exists).
I'm so scared. It is something that I did when I was about 11 and is pretty horrible. I've never told anyone. So I basically get to freak out until 330 when I see her.

How courageous you are to trust T to tell her your big secret! How did it go? I'm sorry you had a feel-bad session yesterday, let's hope you feel better today after your session. I could've written this post, I did the same thing recently and it went perfectly. It took the shame away and made me feel OK with myself.
Thanks for this!

Hey all - sorry to take so long to post again. I just wanted to say that it went really well! I don't know how I did it, but I told her and she was so wonderful. I left feeling better and surprised by her reaction. I just can't explain what it is like to have this "out" somewhere and I really think this is my last lingering area that needs healing. The idea that so many layers have been peeled back is mind boggling.

Well done! It sounds like the surprise at her reaction was a pleasant surprise? I'm glad you left feeling better.

I'm glad you got it out in the open and you feel better.

You shouldn't worry about lurking, we kind of just all hang out and hope we get the courage to post things.

But good luck to you! I hope you post more!
