Has anyone seen the movie Her and made a strange connection to our own therapies?

If you haven't seen the movie (it's really good!) it takes place in the future (we aren't told when) and people start to fall in love with highly intelligent operating systems. In the movie the characters are seriously conflicted because they know their OS isn't a real person and yet it feels so real. Their OS appears to understand them, has feelings of their own, and begins to know their 'client' deeply - in ways no other real person does.

I watched this film for the second time the other day and I got the same vibe both times - it really mirrors how my relationship feels with my therapist! I feel like I love him (but I don't know him at all!) and he knows me intimately. He also feels quite unreal to me sometimes, in the sense that my entire construct of him outside his office is an image, making him not entirely real. I also made a deep connection to the ending but I won't share that here because I will spoil it for anyone that wants to check it out.

Does anyone else see where I'm coming from?

Yes, and I thought the movie was disturbingly sad. That takes guts to watch it twice! I did think it was interesting how hot the sex scenes were between the guy and his cell phone though, good acting I guess!
Thanks for this!

I'm not a melancholy person but for some reason I love sad movies. I sobbed over a hospice documentary the other day and today caught Fault of Our Stars. Horror movies on the other hand? NO! NO NO NO!!!

Yes!! Love this movie although I found Scarlett Johansen's voiceover of the OS kind of irritating. (love Joquin phoenix though)

It was a little sad for me at times, but the ending felt like a reconnecting to humanity for me.

I just watched it. It is kind of depressing but has a lot to say. There were parts that reminded me of the t/client relationship.

One moment in the film that resonated with my therapy

"how many other people are you seeing????"

"2,475,645" …or whatever outrageous # it was.

How can one love so many others at the same time???
Thanks for this!

How are you all watching this movie? I checked and it's not out on DVD until like Friday.

“I’m good at loving books. I’m good at loving soft bed sheets. I’m good at loving coffees and teas. I am good at loving things that can’t love me back, that don’t have the power to leave. And maybe, that’s why I love them.”

I rented on Amazon. I'm a Prime member, not sure if you need a membership to rent from Amazon.

I saw it twice. The second time was when my ex therapist invited me to see it with her.
