Hi, I was a bit in distress this week and called my T in between a session. We talked for an hour. Do I offer her to pay for the "session"? Or is this part of her job - crisis management.

I know if she expects payment she will tell me, but wondering if I should offer to pay.

Do u normally pay for your phone calls between sessions?

Thanks!

My T typically charges for any calls over half an hour. However, I know there have been a few times we've talked for more than that and she hasn't charged me.

I think it kinda depends on what you feel comfortable with. If you would feel more comfortable offering to pay, then do so. As you said, though, I would expect that if your T wants payment for the time, she will let you know.

No, he's never charged me, but I rarely call him unless it is an emergency.

I don't usually pay for phone calls, but ours are pretty short, around 10 min.

It depends on the therapist. My old t had a policy that she would charge the normal session rate for any contact between sessions that was over 5 minutes. She never did though, even when we would talk for an hour.

Yes my second T apparently charges after 10 minutes but our convos usually end before.

My first T no charge regardless of time, all depends.

We have never discussed if she charges, but then I have never called between session only to change appointment times.

I have offered to pay my regular T, because he does not seem to have a stated policy about phone calls. He said he offers that time because he chooses to and does not charge. Our marriage counselor has a policy of charging for calls over 10 minutes.

If it were me, I would offer without being asked for payment.

I would think your T would let you know, or you can ask. One of my Ts charged me a copay after we had a series of calls over a week, but he let me know that was his intention.

I have never been charged by a T for phone calls, but they are usually brief. It is difficult for me to call because I feel like I'm intruding. If I can wait, I usually call and schedule an earlier appointment. She's always been good at fitting me in.

It would probably help to ask your T so you aren't left wondering or worrying; seems there are many different possibilities with a T and phonecalls so good to know your own t's policy
