So I do therapy over Skype with my T in Canada and there's a 16 hour time difference. Up until now we've been doing therapy late at night (my time). But now that daylight savings time has ended it's gotten really late - my appointment is from 1am to 2am. So she's asked if I'd rather do it in the morning my time. She has a 7:30am (my time) slot open. I am pretty sleepy for our 1am appointments. And the next morning I'm not well rested. So I wonder if 7:30am is better. I don't have to work until noon so I'll have a little time to recover from the session if you will. Anyone have any input on morning vs night therapy?

Wow. 1 or 2 am? I would take a wild guess and say that 730 am would be better.

Personally, I would keep the 1am time slot. Only because I have a thing for night therapy sessions. If I have a session early in the morning, I find myself obsessing over it the rest of the day. At least when it's at night, I can go to sleep and feel a bit calmer the next day!

Yogix, yeah I agree. I like night therapy for that reason too. 10 or 11pm is nice but 1am is pushing it.

Doyoutrustme, yeah I could try it and if I don't like it I can change back I guess.

I would base it on whether one was a morning person or a night person. I am a night person, so the 1am thing would be fine for me. If someone feels better and more settled in the morning, then that would be, in my opinion, the time for that person.

I feel settled at night I'd say. In the morning I feel all over the place thinking about the things I have to do that day. My mind might be blank if I'm getting right out of bed and starting a session

With east coast/west coast time differences, I have had phone therapy with main T as early as 5am. It is hard to think straight at that hour.

At night our defences are well up from all the daytime living.
We're more vulnerable and real in the morning. That might bean angle worth considering perhaps?

It sounds like morning might work better for you. Perhaps you could just try it once and then you might feel clearer about which is better for you. I'd be thrilled with a 1am session, but I'm always still wide awake at 2am. I'm such a night person and I've only had a couple of sessions in the evening and I liked them so much more than mid afternoon or earlier sessions. Though if it came down to it, I'd take whatever was available, even if at a less favourable time.

Funny - I'm the opposite. In the morning I'm more in "efficient, capable, nothing touches me" mode. In the evenings, I can relax more and be more real, like I can let go a bit of the need to convince the world I can have a productive, successful day. I guess we're all different!

I'm definitely a night person, but I'm not sure I could do 1am. I've been working on sleep hygiene, and the way I am after therapy means I wouldn't be able to just fall asleep ten minutes after my session ended at 2am - I tend to mull and ruminate for a couple of hours, write, read/ research. So, a session this late would really mess up my sleeping pattern. It'd probably be about 4am by the time I drifted off and I'm up at 6am for work on the days I'm in the office I guess it depends partly on how you feel about your sleep being disrupted, and if you can switch off shortly after you guys say goodbye? And if you feel sleepy at 1am, that's definitely going to impact your work, I'd have thought.
Thanks for this!
