Have you ever cancelled a counselling/therapy session because you had a cold or were ill?
Has your counsellor/therapist ever cancelled?
What is your opinion on cancelling a session because of a cold? Agree, disagree, etc?
Thanks for this!

We have both cancelled once or twice due to illness. If I don't feel well, I'm generally not up to therapy, and I try not to share my germs. He certainly doesn't want them. It goes both ways.

I've cancelled when I wasn't feeling good after an infusion once before. He was fine with it because I warned him ahead of time that it would probably be the case.

I wouldn't go if I was infectious, nope. Other than that if I could I would. I've missed one since starting in July, due to a panick attack type thing.

The one therapist has canceled due to illness (flu and so forth).
I would cancel if sick. It seems reasonable to me cancel on both sides if one is ill.

I wouldn't go to see my T if I was ill, It would be like sending a child to school if they were ill.

I cancelled once because my sons had basketball games that got scheduled at the same time so if I did catch a case of the herpegonasyphilaids, I would cancel as well.
Thanks for this!

I would cancel if it was infectious, but do it as soon as you know you can't go. Don't wait until the last minute.

There is a sign hanging in my therapists office asking you to please call and cancel if you have a cold or are not feeling well.

The severity of a cold can be huge, though. I'd go if I had a cold if it wasn't a bad cold.

I've never canceled because of being sick, but only because by the time my session rolled around, I felt well enough to go. There have been a few times where my voice was nearly gone, but with my allergies, that happens, and I just deal with it. T has canceled my in person appointment and we did a phone session once because she was sick.

I think, if either you or the T is contagious or simply feeling so unwell that you can't concentrate on the session, the most respectful thing to do is cancel, or consider a phone session if you feel well enough to talk on the phone.

No, but I haven't been sick. I have cancelled for lesser reasons. My T has not cancelled on me, but hasn't been sick that I've noticed. If one of us did happen to have a cold it wouldn't surprise me at all to cancel, I would kind of expect that. Since T's are in business to make money my guess is they will go unless contagious or feeling really bad, in which case I wouldn't want them to go.
