Does discussing things about your therapy here give you a better understanding of your therapy?
I have come. To realize that I don't know much about therapy after only 9 months of it. But I find that my therapist doesn't always tell me everything right away, he seems to think that it may make me too nervous to talk sometimes. I find that people reflect more on here about their many different therapy encounters. Does comparing scenarios with other and getting feedback on here make it easier or worse when you go into therapy? I gather it may be easier for some things to be shared anonymous then in person. |

For me, it makes it much easier with respect to dealing with the time between sessions... I also think/analyse my sessions more, so sometimes thanks to the forum I bring up some interesting topics to sessions... On the other hand, I do not treat the PC like "the second T" and I don't take everything what is posted her as the 100% true"...

I like reading about how differently others approach therapy and therapists from how I do. This site is very useful in that way to me.
What helped me understand more about what the therapist was doing was going to see another therapist who would explain stuff (the first one I see is total crap at that and refuses to do so - I used to try to get to her to explain but she refused. I, in turn, refused to be deterred by her unwillingness, and so I consult with others to give explanations for what the first one does), I read a lot of their text books, and I have audited some classes to find out what tricks they try on clients.

Makes me feel not as alone! No one knows I am returning to therapy very, very soon. I have no where else but here to get input only my experiences and hear about other's experiences as well

Sometimes it's helpful, and sometimes it's the opposite of helpful.

It helps me to understand my transference and keep things in perspective. It also helps me between sessions. My T makes me nervous but he's the only one I can really talk to. I get lonely :-(
