I left a carrier bag with some clothes in at my session yesterday, I realised after I left, came back but she didn't answer her door.

In the past I've left some things (like an umbrella or drink) and she's said it's because 'I don't want to leave the session' and you want to leave a part of you behind.

I emailed her today apologising. I need what's in there lol

Has this happened to you? What happened?

I left my new journal when she was leaving on vacation for several weeks that day She saw it and kept it "safe" and said she was worried she'd forget/misplace it, etc. It seemed an obvious unconscious ploy on my part to bridge the gap of her going on vacation. I was starting a new plan that week of not writing her between sessions so her going on vacation made it even harder.

Sure, over the years it's happened. I'm not sure it has to mean anything though. Would start analyzing it only if it were more frequent than normal.

Hmm. I think that's reading a bit into it. I've left stuff more because of a ditz moment, not because of some unconscious motivation/desire. I just get in a rush to leave to work and sometimes leave a drink, phone, etc.

Oh yes. I could leave my head in my T's office or anywhere else, that's how forgetful I get sometimes about my things One time I forgot in my T's office a carrier bag with clothes, my food for the next couple of days, my training notebook, and even a gift I was hand-making as a surprise for him! I didn't even notice! i just got a text from him when I was just a couple of streets away saying that I had left it there. He had a session then and couldn't let me come get it, but luckily I could retrieve my stuff that evening.

I've left my drink at T's office a few times and didn't remember until later. I now put my drink in my purse so I won't drop it or leave it behind.

I like tea, so I often bring hot tea to session, one time I left it, her office is in my college and I went down the hall to the library (Not telling her so she had no idea) well I left it in her office and she came out with it looked around for me and brought it to me.

On occasion I'll leave my drink and sometimes I remember and can go back and get it and other times I realize to late which is a waste of my money.

During my last session, I left my keys in her office. I was paying for my session and when I was done, realized that I didn't have them. So I asked the receptionist to please go to her office and grab them for me but she had already found them and given them to receptionist number two. Wasn't a big deal though. First time I ever left anything there as I usually have a random few moments to gather my things while she writes out the payment slip at the end.

No but I don't take anything in. Once I had a coat and she reminded me to take it as I was getting the money out to pay her. I remember being sort of surprised she would think I was going to forget my coat in cold weather when I was on a motorcycle. Now I just leave my coat in the car or cycle so it does not come up.

I left my cup with tea in it once. I was so fuming mad at T by the end of the session I just grabbed my purse and stormed out. I realized it when I got to the car but was too mad at T to go back. I figured I'd get it next time. Turns out, I asked for an emergency session the next day and got my cup then. The freaky part is it was "exactly" where I left it. LOL that kind of made me feel like T didn't see anyone else that day or the next.

Bizarre timing of this thread. Last week I was in a hypomania and brought a book with some papers in it to my session. I made a big point that i could now read "big books" and wanted to prove it (i am usually unable to concentrate). The thing is, the book is a famous british novel that I'd know that she'd "know" because she was an english major as an undergraduate. Also the papers had notes all over them about my transference and how I'd describe it to her. I KNOW I left it on her sec'ys desk. I called the sec'y the next day and she said it wasn't there. My theory is that my psychiatrist saw it there and put it in her office to give back to me- she knew it was mine. Now I picture her reading all my notes and I'm actually HOPING she does. I guess we really do do things unconsciously for a reason.

My t has invited me to leave things in her office (when she used to have one...) or take something of hers with me, if it would help me feel more connected with her. Occassionally i would see other clients things in tucked away places too, like a stuffie under the chair. My younger alters would leave their dolls for t to "take care of", or t would give them a bear of hers to take care of.
When my t went overseas a couple years ago for her emergency thing, we bought a pittle stuffed animal on a key chain, and she put it on a clip inside her purse and took it with her show she would keep that connectio with us, as well as a small version of one of our favorite childrens books. They are both still in her purse

After bringing my baby daughter in with me once, I got a text from T after I left saying she had found a plastic ear of corn under her couch

I have left my phone and glasses at my former therapist's office, but I've been known to leave my purse on the NY City subway. She and I never put any meaning in it. I've never been to careful with my things.

Sorry, I'm in a weirder than usual mood tonight. When I get depressed, my brain turns to whacky humor. This thread makes me think of a bumper sticker, which reminds me of my ex-H, with whom I'm currently exasperated, because he's not stepping up as our son's guardian. Anyway, the bumper sticker says, "Your proctologist called--they found your head."

You are making me curious here. Which novel was it?

I never bring anything into T's office, other than my work bag - and that's a huge rucksack which there's no way I could forget. And if I did, T would notice it before I was out of his door.
