I wanted to see this one particular therapist, because she is one of the very few in my area who specializes in the disorder I believe I'm facing... after finally getting the courage to call her, I got the voicemail of a guy with the same last name as her. I'm assuming it's her husband or son or something, but for some reason it really discourages me from seeing her. Is that weird??
It's like this might be her home phone number or like I might have to ask her husband to speak to her. It seems unprofessional to me. I haven't had the courage to call back again, but would this sort of thing stop you from scheduling an appointment with a therapist? |

That does seem odd. It doesn't suggest a high level of professionalism, does it?

It is strange that she doesn't have a separate line. You can always leave a short message saying that you were looking to speak with dr X but you are not sure if you have the right number. Don't give any more info than your own # until you get a live person on the phone.Good luck!!!

Where did you find the number? If theyre in the same building its an easy thing to happen. If hes the identified owner and the receptionist (of there is one) missed the call it just rolls over automatically. You may not want to write her off so quickly. I agree just leave your number.

That is strange. My ex=therapist sometimes let his wife who was NOT a therapist in any way, shape or form, listen to his messages. It really bothered me, but I never said anything.

I wonder if it is possible that they work together...I know a couple that own their own practice together. They are both therapists...that being said I agree with growlycat; you should only give very basic information.

Perhaps she accidentally gave you her home number instead of her office number?
Unless there is some innocent explanation, I don't blame you for being discouraged about her. It is a breach of confidentiality for a counselor to allow any other person routine access to voice mail from her clients. |
