I have 90 minute sessions. They started as one hour but we kept going over so they finally became a regular 90 minutes. I feel one hour is way too short for me, I'm just coming out of my self and discussing important things at one hour.

Since I may be looking for a new T in the near future, can I ask up front that this is what I
need for time? If they say no, I dont think I would want to see that therapist.

How many of you go over an hour one a week?

I think it's very fair to ask for 90 minutes!

we kept going over too, so my T suggested 1hr 20mins since that's where our session always naturally came to a close at. It's a good amount of time for me.

Mine is typically right around an hour...though in the past several weeks I have had to call and get another appointment because things have been really rough lately. She's VERY professional...almost TOO professional sometimes. I wish I had an hour and a half...that would be great.

My T has a little form that I take up to the receptionist...they have check boxes for the various services they have "Psychotherapy" and they have 30 min, 45 min, and 60 min. Then there's a "Crisis add-on" that is 30 min. and a bunch of other stuff.

I think you are within your rights to ask for 90 mins.

My sessions are approx 80mins, sometimes longer, sometimes shorter depending on how things go.

There's no harm in asking if that's what you need. My sessions were 50mins once a week.

We did 2 hours with a ten or fifteen minute break in the middle, worked well and was nice to have a little reflective time midway.

My T and I are scheduled for an hour, but we almost always go over because I'm the last appointment of the day. My appointments average about 1 hour, 20 minutes.

I currently meet for 45 minutes, it might be nice to meet for longer but I don't think that she has the time to do so.
