So this Friday I was called into my boss's office. They started telling me what a great job I was doing, etc., and I am sitting there thinking they will hire me full-time and I will get health insurance. Instead, they told me I would be getting an hourly raise. I was very, very disappointed. They did tell me I can go far in this industry and mentioned something about potentially next steps, but then one of my supervisors mumbled something about October which is sooo far away. FYI I have been there 4 months.
Then they asked if there was anything they could do to make working there better, and I did say that I had just turned 26 and was looking at Affordable Care Act options but would prefer employer sponsored health insurance. One of my supervisors started saying I had to be f/t to get that, but the CEO interrupted her and said she would ask HR and look into it.
I was sooo disappointed when I left their office, and I think they could see it. On the one hand I know 4 months isn't a long time, but on the other hand I was told by HR they would hire me within 6 months if they liked me, which obviously they do.
I know I can get ACA insurance, but that won't cover my T, who is out of network. I should also wait and see what HR says in regards to health insurance, but it doesn't seem likely that I will have enough coverage to be able to pay my old T once I am out of the DBT study.
It is really a bummer because I honestly thought I would have coverage by April, and now it seems likely I won't. I don't really want to ask her to see me on a very reduced rate. I also still owe her money from this summer, which I am paying her in increments every month (I mail her a check). I have reduced what I owe her by a lot, but I don't feel comfortable asking her to see me again when I am unable to pay her even a fraction of her rate.
It sucks because she is the reason why I did this study and I have been thinking about her so much and missing her. I do think that eventually they will hire me permanently, but it seems it is going to take longer than expected.

They're looking into it, so you may be able to. Is there a way to cut back on other expenses to be able to afford it? Or talk to your T about a reduced rate?

I was thinking one thing I may be able to do is see her once a month paying full rate until my insurance situation changes. I really don't feel comfortable popping up on her doorstep and saying "Hey it's been 7 months and I can't pay you almost at all, will you take me back?" Of course I am exaggerating but you get the gist. There is also the issue that I still owe her around $500, which I would have to pay in addition to any new appointments.

My roommate says I have done everything she's asked, including 6 months of DBT with no contact with her, as well as paying her monthly what I owe, so I should ask her to take me back on a sliding scale, but I don't feel comfortable with it, unless I saw her 1/month on a full fee.

Can you at least bring it up with her and discuss options with her?

I was thinking of waiting about a month after the study finishes and then asking her. IDK why but this seems better to me. Like, I would have another month to make a payment and also I would be one month closer to health insurance.
Also I think it's a psychological thing, like I am not contacting her immediately after the study is over; instead I am using restraint and waiting a little bit. IDK why but for me this seems better....

It sounds like you're trying to punish yourself in some way?

Could you go back to your T but go less frequently until you get coverage?
Thanks for this!

Does "out of network" mean they don't pay any of it or does it mean you have to submit the forms separately? It's been a long time since I had great insurance but I've always gotten some coverage for out of network.

Yes that's what I was thinking but it would have to be like once a month.

On the ACA options I was looking at, it says all of them don't accept out of network, and the ones I would be able to afford definitely don't accept out of network.
When I was on my parent's insurance, that's what I would do: fill out the forms and then wait for the reimbursement.

I'm sorry about your employer's change in their story. I hope they figure out a way to get you health insurance there.
Thanks for this!
