I'm just curious, I have my second therapy session tomorrow. I'm excited but nervous. What did your second session entail?

Usually that is when I start to get a feel for the Therapist.

With my first Therapist the second session was really the first time we had for an extended discussion since at the first session I had a hard time finding the place (and even had to call the practice a few times, it turns out it was snuggled in a back road) so we only had about 20 minutes or so (less than half of the scheduled time) to talk because we still had to end at my scheduled end time.

With both of my therapists, my second session was a huge disappointment. With both therapists, the sessions didn't live up to the initial consultation or my expectations. However, that might be because I tend to have high standards.

I consider my "second" session with my T as being the session after I met him while meeting the pdoc. So really, it's the first session... but I can't remember the next one at all.

We talked about history. He made a comment about my family, saying something about maybe working on those relationships (indirectly implying that I didn't already do as much as I could there). I somehow told him that by the next session or so which was impressive for me.

I actually remember my 2nd session with LCM. I told her I was having SI urges. She took me in another room and said "the hospital told me you like to color". I said I do. She handed me some crayons and some paper and told me to. I did. She asked me questions and I spun them around back at her. I played this little game I play with all of my new therapists to help me figure out what they are willing to do and how quick and confident they are to respond to me without 1) letting me dominate the conversation 2) getting nervous and recoiling or 3) getting annoyed with my willingness to give them hell. I need a T that will let me disagree and will meet me at my level. If she gets frustrated chasing me in circles, then I can't work with her longterm.
T: "how does that make you feel?"
Me: "I don't know. How does that make you feel?"
T: "it makes me feel like you are feeling quite defensive. Why do you want to know how I feel about you claiming not to know how you feel?"
crap like that
