I met my new OCD therapist yesterday (I still see my therapist from school too) and it went ok. He's a guy which I don't like, I wanted another female therapist but this guy takes my insurance and specializes in OCD so it is what it is. I saw my first OCD therapist for four sessions before ending it because I didn't click with him. So my regular therapist still wanted me to try a new OCD therapist.

Kinda confusing but basically I see a female therapist and she wanted me to see an OCD therapist in addition. So I saw one for four sessions, ended it, and now I'm trying a new OCD therapist.

The session with this guy went ok, he seems really nice and stuff. We did these breathing exercises where I closes my eyes and he said some soothing things. I just didn't feel like it helped, I'm sure that would help a lot of people, I'd never tried anything like that before, but I felt like it felt weird having a guy say soothing stuff to me. I don't want to sound ignorant, I'd feel much more comfortable with a woman doing that than a man. It was pretty awkward but I really tried to have an open mind and give him a chance. He suggested a book too which I'll get from the library. I'll probably give him three more appointments but I'm not confident that it'll work. I can only click with my non OCD therapist. She is great, I like her style, I love her, and that's just the way it is. I don't think any other therapists will work.

You say you are open to this working while listing all the reasons why it won't.

It can't have a chance to work if you don't really try.
Thanks for this!

Things like relaxation techniques take some time to begin to work. You have to practice relaxing before it becomes easy to do.

Also, you sound very resistant. Try to keep yourself open, even though you don't think it's ideal. It may end up being exactly what you need.
