I do take jokes well, but this one would have really freaked me out. I would probably spent the rest of the time muttering that she isn't really leaving or even get angry that she would find joking about that funny.

I guess it shows a lot for the connection you two have for her to feel comfortable with that kind of humor!

Personally, I would have been very upset and would probably not be okay with my T for awhile. It would take a lot to repair the relationship for me after something like that, because I would hate her toying with my emotions. My two long-term Ts have definitely had a great sense of humor, but would know I would not be okay with that kind of joke.
Yes, I can understand - but for me it was really ok and even therapeutic! I, the girl on the high horse who doesn't want to be too dependent or attached, suddenly gets cold feet for a moment thinking her therapist could leave her. And also, this is about trust as well. I know, my T would never terminate me like this. Well, she will not terminate me, period. And thinking she would, without having a little faith to look into the box first before letting my emotions run high - it told me a lot about myself. I am not at all upset :-) I asked her if she did this with all her clients. She said the therapy in a jar is her birthday present to her clients, and she fills each one differently. It turned out to be April Fools day when she brought the package to me so she made it into a joke.. I like her a lot more now that she trusted me to be ok with this. And I have already tried the chocolate therapy. :-) It works!
