I think more should but I expect not many do. Why would they bother?

I'm not sure how many do, but my T has told me that she has read an online forum. It could be this one.

I bet more do than we think, but honestly, if you were a teacher, would you go home and go on teacher boards? Maybe if you're looking for something specific, but not just because.

At least....that's my opinion.

I was actually talking to my therapist today, and he said he uses this forum to see what side effects people have to certain medications.

Maybe a few, I doubt it's a hobby for many. I suspect like most people, when they go home they relax, spend time with family, read a good book or watch mindless television.

Hard to say, but I thinks it's probably not a high percentage. Most Ts are very busy with their work and whatever free time they have is dedicated to family, or other interests. I don't think many of them have the time to add anything extra.

I doubt very many. I had a therapist say they didn't watch "In Treatment" because it's like watching what they did all day (but more dramatic, of course). My ex-husband is a lawyer, and when we were married the last thing he wanted to hear or see when he came in the door was "Law & Order"!

The question are they watching you now? How many T's do you think secretly read this board?

My psychologist told me that he was assigned several projects in college that specifically included creating an internet persona and engaging others in order to experience this particular demographic... and that was way back in the '80's and 90's.

So I kinda assume that anyone could be anybody... I just don't really care that much.

I have no idea. I would though be a little upset if I found T was reading them. I love her and pretty open with her when I am ready. To find out that she was reading things about me and not asking seems just wrong. If I knew about her occasionally reading it that is a different story.

My previous Pcp was a friend of mine of facebook. She had quite a few of her closer patients as "friends" She loved seeing their children etc. She also told me she used it to keep an eye on me. Again I knew this though.

Why do you think more should Stopdog? I tend to agree that they should.

I wasn't so much thinking T's read this in their spare time as a hobby or anything but that it might be professionally useful in providing them with some insight into clients' experiences that we can't always articulate to them. I don't mean monitoring one's own clients secretly but just that this forum generally seems like a good opportunity for T's to learn from the successes and mistakes of their peers. I imagine that when you go to a therapist conference and listen to some therapist present something they've done with a client it would be interesting to hear about th intevention from the client's perspective.

Is it scary to know that my T was on this forum...checking it out for me along with other forums. Does she continue to read this forum? 99% doubt it. She's too busy. She so busy that she only ever "skims" what I write.

I doubt that my T's have any spare time. But I kind of wish they looked at least once to see what I'm talking about!

No one has mentioned yet that a number of posters on PC say that they are t's. The only thing that would concern me is if a t read this and knew or suspected their client was posting and read their client's post without the client knowing. It would bother me if that happened at all. I think it could happen once by accident without the t really having done anything wrong, if the t stumbled onto it innocently, but if they continued to read without telling their client they were doing it, I'd think it was unethical. But I agree with most posters that most t's don't have time.

With my previous t, I asked him near the beginning of therapy if he ever read online boards about therapy. I don't remember exactly how I worded it. It was uncomfortable to ask, but I was glad he said he was too busy. I never totally trusted him, but at least he would have had to acknowledge he had been misleading when he said he was too busy if he ever did read my stuff on here and admitted it. I do believe he was way too busy to read much, though I also think he might have done something like that rarely if the curiosity impulse struck him (which it probably wouldn't have), even though it would have been a bit dishonest. The only time he said something in session that gave me a vague suspicion was near the beginning of therapy, after I had told him I post online, when he out of the blue made a point about how I'm open to learning (my user name) compared to some clients, or something like that.

With my current t, it didn't occur to me to wonder until just now. I wouldn't want her to read a few of the things I've said about her on here, but for the most part I can't remember anything I've said that I'd care if she read or didn't read.
Thanks for this!
