Today I will be going for a tooth extraction, which i been putting off, but at times the pain is horrible, it also has caused an ear infection, the ear is better , I am on antibiotics. The problem is I should take care of my teeth better, but with the ptsd and dentists hovering over me, it triggers me, but Im gonna have to be brave today, I cant continue to digest advils and tylenol anymore.
Im very scared, im not calling t for this, I just wanted to vent here. I was wondering if everything does go well, do you think i can still keep my appt for next wed, have any of you had a tooth extraction, just extraction, and 6 days later be able to keep your appt with t.

I had an extraction in January and another in March and I was fine within a couple of days - just sore - but fine. I went back to work after 48 hours. I was petrified too. My dentist actually referred me to the hospital as it was a tricky extraction and she was aware how anxious i was. It was so much better than I expected. I really was surprised at how well both healed. I am sure you will be okay to keep your appt. with your T. Good luck, Sweepy - let us know how you get on. I actually had two out at the end of last year too - I forgot about those. I am in a bad way re teeth.

You should be able to keep your appointment with T. I don't know if you'll read this before your appointment but, speaking as someone with dental phobia AND who has had multiple tooth extractions, one of the best things you can do for yourself (and your dentist), is to KEEP BREATHING during the procedure. It's all too easy to hold your breath and tense up your body, but you will be better off if you continue sending oxygen to your brain. This will help you relax. I also close my eyes during the procedure, so I don't feel the dentist "hovering" over me. Good luck. Let us know how it goes for you.

Dentists are terrifying to me. I avoided them for so long that when I finally went in, I had to have more than 10 fillings, a tooth extraction, and a root canal. I know it's scary. But you can survive this. Some dentists will give you anti anxiety medications to help, also. And mine let's me "participate" as much as possible to feel more in control.

You should be able to keep your appointment, several years ago I had to get an emergency tooth extraction done and I returned to work the next day.
