Hey all. My normal scheduled sessions are Tuesdays, except I'm really struggling this week, and after just having been prescribed a benzodiazepine (along with having an addictive personality) I'm struggling a bit more.

Do you think it's silly to ask my therapist if she has any openings on Monday?

I guess I just feel stupid wanting to ask if she has an opening on Monday when my normal appointments are Tuesdays....

No, it's definitely not silly. It sounds like you could benefit from it.

I think you should definitely ask - people have to change plans all the time so there could well be a cancellation even if your T is normally booked quite fully.

I agree that you should definitely ask! Worse your T can do is say no and you still have your session on Tuesday.

Thanks everyone for replying. I guess I just feel silly because I feel like one day isn't a big deal to wait. But on the other hand, Tuesday seems so far away. I think I'm going to muster up the courage to ask. Wish me luck. >.<

I have back-to-back sessions almost always when I'm in crisis. It's okay.

I sort of wanted to try to do this with my Therapist a few months back a few days after we had such a difficult session that I was questioning if I should continue to see her but afterwards I was glad that I didn't try to ask for one because it allowed me to soak everything in and really see why things were so difficult in that one session.

Update: I reached out, and she assured me it wasn't silly to ask. And offered me a time on Monday. I still feel so silly. And feel now more worse than I did before I made the appointment. What if I don't sound like I need an extra appointment when I go in Monday? What if I don't have anything to say? 😞😞

You do not and will not look silly for booking an extra appointment and then having difficulty speaking up in session.

Rather, you look to me like someone empowered. You were struggling and you made a very sensible decision about how to handle that. I hope you'll go in there and soak up her support. She's there for you: not for you to put on a performance and say something dramatic to prove you deserve a session, but just... for you, as you are, wanting help and asking for it. I think that's excellent.

Thank you. I have to do my best to remember that. I'm more anxious about the appointment than anything else.

Literally still anxious over my emergency session tomorrow. I hate that I felt I needed it all week, and now that I have one scheduled, literally feel like I don't need it at all.

Stupid anxiety.

I'll pocket ride for you if you'd like... I know the problem, once I asked my T if we could meet one week earlier than planned and when it happened I came and started by saying that actually I had no idea what I was doing there but in my case it ended up well and that's what I wish you too

Thank you! My appointment is 2:30 tomorrow so I appreciate the pocket ride! I think tonight after I get out of work at 11 I'll go home and write down everything from this week that has happened and prepare. 😖😖
