I was wondering what type of weird things have happened in session that aren't related to you or your T doing therapy. For example, I was in session with my T and there was a fire in the building. So we got a knock on the door (private practice) and told we needed to evacuate. Anyone else had anything weird happen?

There have been many times where there were people walking on the roof of the building doing work.

About two years ago, T resigned at the mental halth centre she was working at to open her private practice. I was one of the 2-3 clients that left with her and so we wouldn't have a 3 month gap until she would get her practice she'd meet us on saturdays in her husbands office at an hospital. (Her husband is a child pdoc).

Once we were in the middle of a session, when her husband came in, apparently not expecting us to be there. Was kinda weid having him come in, without knocking, and both of them being completely confused about what was going on... apparently they hadn't realized both had scheduled sessions in the same room at the same time...

One time it started to storm and hail....did not like..he has big window facing west...It got dark SOOO fast! I got a little freaked.

I used to go every Tues am...and it didn't matter if it was f-ing snowing, they would come round to mow right by his window where I sit..didn't know whether to laugh or scream...I finally changed days and times...couldn't handle yelling my tears!! lol

He has a wonderful small lake/pond behind the building...sometimes we walk and talk...and he knows sometimes I come on the weekends to watch ducks etc... A few months ago, he asked me if I still came...I said no, not really...there was too much "evidence" that others were using the duck pond for more than viewing...he raised his eyebrows and I finally had to say the word condoms...I was so embarrassed... He then acted like maybe it was just a few or something..no big deal...and I said..."no, they've been VERY, VERY busy.." I was mortified...but he chuckled...and I think made mental note to tell ground crews to clean it up...ugh!!

Just another day at the office...

I go to a community mental health center and the bottom portion of the building is a day treatment for children. With my last T we had a fire drill during the middle of my session.

The power has gone out in the middle of a couple of sessions. During a week long power outage, she had a couple of multi-wick candles to light the room and we wore our coats.

People have either knocked on the door or entered without even knocking. That is really disturbing! T now has a sign up on her door about being in session.

Only once did her cell phone ring in her purse. It was a chiming ring tone. She didn't get up and get the phone. We waited for it to stop and she apologized.

One time when I still saw her in person, cleaning staff knocked on her door and she got quite upset with them for interrupting our session. Oh my, I thought, my sweet ninja T has a temper!!

Just remembered something else - she's normally totally attentive and attuned to me but another time when I still saw her in person, she became very obviously distracted and I had to say "hello?! am I boring you?" and she apologized and said she'd been watching a butterfly outside the window.... that had a spiritual meaning for her..... nothing like that has ever happened before or since....

The clinic where I go is on the waterfront, in the marina. There's a boardwalk with pedestrians, people walking their dogs, whatever, that goes right past T's office.

One day we were having a session and these two little old ladies stopped. They appear to be pointing into T's office where we're sitting. We stop talking and look at them. The little old ladies creep closer to the window, talking and pointing.

Then they both leaned on the windows and cupped their hands around their eyes trying to see in! LOL!!! OMG!!!

I'm like what the hell??? T just laughed and said, "It's one way glass. They can't see in. No matter how hard they try, they can't see us. But we can see them." Haha. Too funny.

my T leaves the door open a little bit (i am in a residential treatment facility) when we meet. his office is in the main house. so some of his clients and other staff members stick their head in a lot to talk to him. but they realize that we are meeting when they see me. i wonder how weird it looks to them that we are both sitting on the floor playing rummy. lol. one time there was a staff meeting and T scheduled me during it. but he shut the door that time because he said he didnt want the Managing director thinking he was skipping out just to play cards with me.

Main T and I used to go for walks in the spring . Our walks were near a residential neighborhood that was close to wetlands and woods, but a heavily populated neighborhood just the same.

Once a buck with a small rack of antlers jumped out right in front of us.

Another time it was a teeny tiny baby rabbit that didn't budge as we walked by--just kept right on eating grass!

Aww at the bunny!

My T's room recently sprang a leak and now he keeps looking at the ceiling if it's raining.

Last session it was really noisy - traffic noise outside and some other stuff. I asked my T to move and sit next to me (he was opposite me at the time) and the second he sat down ALL the noise stopped. Huh.

OMG sekrit T superpower!

Once somebody tried to open the door to T's office during my session. It's locked (it opens from the inside but you'd need a key to get in from the outside) and it is downstairs from the actual office, so nobody can actually get in unless T opens the door for them. In itself this is not a particularly weird thing, but I had had recurring nightmares over the previous weeks about people actually coming into the room during my therapy hour, so it was extremely disconcerting for me.

I experienced something similar to this. I was talking about something extremely difficult and was whispering because that was the best I could do. My T was trying so hard to hear me, but I had to repeat things a few times, which was really hard. Some other clinicians were in the hallway outside of our door talking and laughing. One of them said something kind of humorously ridiculous (I forget what it was now). My T said "excuse me" and whipped open the door. I was terrified when she did this! I didn't want anyone to see me when she opened the door. But I think she covered me by how she was standing. She didn't say anything. But they left the hallway pretty quickly, and I know I wouldn't want to be on the receiving end of whatever look she gave them...

Not very weird, but rather unusual.

Once there was a lot of noise in the building and my T took me for a walk to have the session in the park instead.

Another time there was a cat walking on the outside window sill thing while we were talking (I was facing the window, he was with his back to it ... so even though I don't have a clear memory of that, I believe there was a moment of confusion when he was talking to me and I just looked out the window all of a sudden).

We once had a session elsewhere than usual for scheduling reasons and it was a place that felt very spooky to me ... and in the middle of the session, mid-conversation, my T said he thought someone was at the door and he got up to check it out. No one was at the door. But that whole building was just creepy.

I was in an inpatient unit in DC a few years ago. I was talking to the T there about abuse at home and my mom's anger. Suddenly there was a loud rumbling and the floor started to vibrate. I initially thought it was the elevator being weird (it was relatively close to the office we were in), but it turned out to be an earthquake. We had to end the session early to evacuate the building. We later joked about the power of my mom's anger...

I consider therapy and therapists weird enough. It is a pretty high bar for other things to get to that level.

I had another therapist turn out the light in the room I was in with my T.

It was super awkward as it was quite dark outside at the time.

My T got up, opened the door, and then shot a "Uh, hello, I'm in here with a client" down the corridor after the other therapist who turned it off.

My T puts a sign on his door saying a therapy session is in progress so nobody ever tries to come in. Sometimes I worry about it though
