Has anyone ever got physically ill during a difficult period in therapy? I haven't slept in 4 days and got a sort of bronchitis. It is warm here, but not too much. Wonderful weather and I don't sweat at work nor am cold. I have cough, temperature and stomach ache. Might be a virus, though I was wondering if it could also be the result of some effort trying to function when I just needed to stop. I wanted to ask my t about it because I feel really bad (also mentally I can't stop crying for some deep sadness that has no clue at all. Like yesterday I cried, today I got up and started crying and they sent me home earlier from work) but I don't even know what she could do about it. Would you and has anyone been in this weird situation? Thanks!

Getting sick, like a cold or bronchitis, always intensifies my mood issues, especially anxiety. I don't recall therapy work causing me to get sick. The fever might be a sign you need a medical appt. And yes, maybe you to need to stop for a few days, take care of yourself, and recover.

Hope you will be back on track in a few days.
Thanks for this!

My believe is that psychological and physical side of ourselves are very connected more then people often like to see.
I have problems with experiencing my emotions but they make sure to come out in some way or another. So I often have to deal with psychosomatic issues. If I talk about something that is particular hard for me I get sick and my back pain always gets me when I push myself too hard etc.
So yes if you are going through hard time mentally maybe your body is trying to make you rest and concentrate on one thing. If you are feeling really sad and emotional but still pushing some things down your body can express that too.

I would not rule anything out. If it doesn´t get better get to your doctor but mainly have few days off and have a rest you probably need very much.

Best wishes on your journey hope you feel better soon
Thanks for this!

Yes. When I'm doing hard stuff, I get sick, then I feel more depressed. It's a vicious cycle. Have to look after yourself to stay on top of it.
Thanks for this!

Your immune system lowers when under a lot of anxiety or stress, so that could be one explanation. Sometimes, it doesn't even have to do with your immune system; your body could simply be responding to the stress/anxiety.

I have been nauseous for 2 weeks now. I have thrown up some days too. I went to my primary and she told me there's no medical reason why I should be sick. She even did a urine test to check for infection and pregnancy. Both negative. She agreed with me that it's most likely the high anxiety I'm feeling after opening up about my past with my T.

Best thing to do is take care of yourself physically and mentally as best you can. Drink juice, eat yogurt, get enough rest, drink fluids, take zinc.

I hope you feel better!

Ambra, also if you take medication like anti-anxieties or antidepressants, they tend to not work as well when you are sick, especially with a fever. My medication prescriber has learned over the past few years to ask if I'm sick when I call her crying that my meds don't
Work anymore. 95%of the time! I'm sick or recovering from an illness. I also agree that emotions can mess with your immune system, and string emotions surfacing can often be accompanied by illness, I hope you feel better soon!

my t gets upset if i go to t sick, bc shes the focal point of contact for so many people that if shes sick she'll get so many others sick.

youre probably more emotional bc of the illness-all your defenses are down.

Thank you for the replies.
I didn't mean that some medication interfered, I'm not on any kind of medication, neither to sleep nor for anxiety. I tend to develop psoriasis as result of stress and fever (e.g. I graduated with fever and I get high fever when I'm really angry or distressed which goes away as soon as I get better emotionally).
I had a very difficult session and the day afer I got cough, fever, stomach ache etc. I had never been so sick though, so I was wondering if it might be again the case but 10 times worse. Because if it is I need to fix this, can't get so sick just because of emotions. I went to the doctor anyway so at least I'm keeping fever low. And am eating well.. so I'll just wait I guess!
