Does your therapist assign you homework? How often?
Do you find that your assigned homework is compatible with where you are in therapy (i.e. you typically are able to complete the homework)? Are you ever unable to get yourself to complete the homework? If so, do you ever come up with a substitute assignment so you end up at least doing something similar/relevant and productive?

She doesn't typically give me homework because she knows I'll obsess over it. Even when she tells me to think about something she'll say, "Think about xyz... but not too much..." Heh.

Yes, she gives me homework all the time. It's based on whatever we are discussing. This past week, I couldn't complete the homework so I just did part that I could. She's OK with that.

Nope. I don't get homework. I get suggestions, but nothing I am required to do.

Mine doesn't say anything about homework. We just start up the next time.

I've only had 7 sessions total. He did assign me homework after session 2... it was very doable (I was SO relieved) - except apparently I did it wrong (so sad).

I had worked really hard on it too.... it was basically a picture of what my universe looked like at a certain age (who I interacted with at that time). I was supposed to make things scale though, so people who were more important were supposed to be bigger... and I didn't realize that at all (oops). He had me redraw it, by hand, during therapy... which was a bit of a terrible mess for me (I couldn't figure out the scale, felt too watched, just sort of crumbled a bit although I did eventually get something for us to talk about...) ugh, yuck.

I think there was one more assignment after that, but I didn't finish it and didn't talk about it because it made me feel worse... and by that time we were talking more about therapy and how to make it work.

I'm not opposed to HW at all - as long as the T is accepting if you have to modify the assignment to make it more do-able and to not cause you to spin out.

My CBT-leaning T is very homework happy!

Almost every session has homework. The harder the task I accomplish, usually means I get a "light" homework assignment the next week. Or, if I find the homework too distressing, he may break it down further to make it more achievable. The homework makes me feel connected to him. Sad, but motivating.

No, I have never got homework from a T. He might suggest things for me to think about but not things to do, and I never get any kind of assignments.

I get things to think about and he asks what my response was in the next session. Occasionally it all gets chucked out the window by a crisis.
