does anyone, or their T, know of any good books on understanding emotions? i've never really been able to find anything other than a CBT/REBT-oriented book which isn't really what i was looking for. i feel like i understand emotions a little but want to learn a lot more as i find them rather interesting but also a mystery. thanks.

Are you wanting non-fiction or novels? I think some novels are great at describing emotions.

A General Theory of Love

Loved this book. Thought it was beautifully written as well as fact-based enough to satisfy the scientist in me.

Not a book, but I found Marshall Rosenber's writings about feelings and needs very helpful in understanding my own emotions. Of course it also takes time to pay attention to them and experience them fully, but MR led the way. He has some well-known books, exploring role of emotions in conflict resolution, but it is very relevant to individuals and practical, not focused on big theoretical approaches at all.
