Hi Smilie, a psychologist is type of mental health professional who can provide you with psychotherapy services. Right here on PsychCentral you can find an article on the different types of Mental Health Professionals:
http://psychcentral.com/lib/2006/typ...professionals/

For psychologist, it says:

Psychologist - A psychologist is a professional who does psychotherapy and has a doctorate degree (such as a Ph.D. or Psy.D.). Psy.D. programs tend to focus on clinical practice and result in the professional having thousands of hours of clinical experience before they enter practice. Ph.D. programs can focus on either clinical or research work, and the amount of clinical experience a professional will gain varies from program to program. Psychologists receive specific training in diagnosis, psychological assessment, a wide variety of psychotherapies, research and more.

Here is a link to a site with a great deal of information about therapy: www.guidetopsychology.com. There is a very good question and answer section as well as information about therapists, therapies, and when to seek therapy....

I hope you find it useful if you decide to visit the site.

Would you like to share with us why you are thinking about getting help?

What is a Psychologist? A psychologist is a trained helper. He/she can help you find the issues in your life that are creating disharmony and lead you to solutions for a better life. What is a Psychologist?
