I want to use my story, experiences with depression and other diagnoses, to help others. Just not sure how to go about it. I think I'm going to start with a blog. Hopefully, at the very least it will help people not feel so alone in their struggle.

I think I'm gonna talk to T about it when I see her next...possibly this week if she gets a cancellation. She may have some other ideas.
Thanks for this!

That's great! I think that's why some of us have our stories. Because we can take them and use them to help others. I used to say that depression sucks 90% of the time. But 10% of the time, it's a blessing because I can use it to help others.

That's great that you want to reach out and give others a hand. You might want to investigate whether or not there is a NAMI office nearby. They are always looking for bright, articulate individuals who have dealt with mental health issues to volunteer to tell their story. They look for speakers to help educate groups of people on the impact mental illness has on individuals and their families. Good luck!

A blog is a great idea. Good for you for already starting it! I hope it helps a lot of people.
I used to write things that were published (being vague to keep my privacy)& i used to love getting mail from people telling me how what i wrote helped them or made a difference to them. So i am sure that if you write a helpful blog, you will also get good feedback from people that will encourage you even as you encourage others!

Blogs can be very helpful. When I found out I had autism spectrum disorder it was very comforting and relieving to read about others who went through similar and even identical experiences. I no longer felt isolated in the neurotypical world.

Good luck!

My T was actually the one who suggested I write a blog. I'm not supposed to journal (because it makes me obsess about my issues), but writing to benefit others is a great way to put my desire and skill to write to use.

I absolutely love my blog/website. So far it's more website than blog, but it's a healthy outlet none the less. Both my T and Pdoc enjoy reading it too.

For me, I personally block all comments on my site. Because I tend to take negative comments so personally, I figure that people who get a benefit from reading the site will come back to it, and the people who don't will simply go away.

I think it's great you're already starting. And I too would love to visit it/read it if/when ever possible.

I love your idea. I tend to take over every thread I post in, with a really long-winded account that may or may not relate to the thread topic. I was silent and shameful for so long that I've forgotten how to shut up now.

I too would love to read it when you are ready to go public!

Yeah blog can be fun, just takes a little persistence, especially when just getting going.

i think a blog is a great idea. are you going to use your real name? i'd just consider how that might affect any potential work/love/etc relationships if you do.
