Well, I'm off to a residential facility for people addicted to AoD for a few months. I've had to take leave from work (and there's no guarantee I'll have a job when I get back), but this is something I have to try. It's all pretty daunting and I won't get to see my t while I'm there I haven't asked her yet, but I have a strong feeling that she will let me call her though. I'll be at the facility for Christmas and New Year - which in one sense saddens me, but at least I can respectfully have nothing to do with my family during a time that is triggering.

I'm going to miss my t, my freedom, the substance I self-medicate with, my solitude ... oh, the list just goes on.

Any advice or encouragement for the journey? Thanks muchly!

(((ThingWithFeathers)))

Lots of warm hugs to you... and good for you for taking care of yourself! You'll be in my thoughts, and I hope that the treatment goes very well, you feel very cared for, and you get to return home soon.
Thanks for this!

Hey Feathers, good luck! I know this might seem weird but I'm a bit jealous... something about treatment has always seemed fun to me. I hope you meet some cool people, and come out of there feeling better.
Thanks for this!

There's a small part of me hoping it will be like school camp, but I'm going through the public system, which is not that well resourced, so I imagine it won't be very luxurious!

School camp might be how I like to imagine it too. I never went to camp as a kid. I think for me just being around people is never bad. Being around people seems to help with both depression and anxiety.

I find myself exhausted around people. I'd like to feel close to people and all, but I'm too busy trying to be the most likable, there's-nothing-wrong-with-me kind of person. It's hard for me to relax around others, so I have a feeling I'm going to really struggle and feel worn out.

Luckily for me, my t is happy to call each week to check in with me over the phone. I'm really going to need her support, so am very glad she's able to offer it.
Thanks for this!

((TWF))...well done, that is a huge step to take!! All the best!!

Therapeutic AOD communities can be fantastic. Hard, but get great results, especially if you can work with their model and tell yourself that while you may not understand why initially.... there is a reason behind every intervention or action the counsellors take.
