I'm not from Georgia, but I'm looking at a particular PHP in Georgia. RiverWoods in Riverdale, GA.
On the phone they said they usually like people to go inpatient a few days first. I'm pretty much against this. I just want the day program. If I show up for the evaluation, what does it take to be involuntarily committed in Georgia? I know how it is in my state, pretty hard actually. Also, if anyone has been to RiverWoods and has any comments that would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for any and all comments. |

I'm from a state with crap for mental health care, that's why I'm going somewhere else to find a program and my insurance will cover this one.

Probably being a serious danger to yourself or others, though I don't know for sure. If it's a condition of the PHP to be inpatient first they might just not admit you to the program.

You might look around for a different PHP program. I know at one point my Pdoc really wanted me to attend a PHP program simply as a way to stay grounded during a time that historically caused me problems. He would have been able to basically prescribe the program to get it approved through insurance, and inpatient wouldn't have been required. Every PHP program is set up differently, so check around. There are programs available to go to, generally under recommendation from your doctor, without having to go via inpatient first.

did they say what their rationale was for having folks go IP before the PHP? I've gone both without having to go IP (in an effort to avoid an IP stay), and as a step-down from IP...
perhaps call them again? or keep looking? I would be uneasy with a program that suggested IP before attending, but I guess if they have a high demand, they may want only acute and necessary cases... |
