I couldn't find the old thread on this and they have added more pictures to this collection. I posted it on the couch but then thought that people who don't go to that thread might find this fun.

In the Shadow of Freud's Couch

Thank you for sharing, find it interesting for some reason, almost in a voyeuristic way.

I sort of wonder what was going on with some of them that they let themselves be photographed. The guy with the sandals? The guy with the guitar - what the hell were they thinking?
And the woman with the dog probably wasn't thinking at all.

Oh god! Most of them are so cluttered! I couldn't handle that! Do you guys' T's have offices like that?? Mine has a few book shelves, and some plants and a couple of paintings- quite a bit of stuff, which I like because it feels cozy- but NOTHING like some of these offices.
Thanks for this!

My T's office is on the smaller side she has several bookshelves and the regular furniture but it's not even a quarter as cluttered as some of these offices are - I would be up trying to organize and put everything away in a place and straightening - oh, my I have step away!

RedCedar I agree! Some of those offices were so busy, cluttered, and the colors /patterns clashing would make me very uncomfortable.

The austere office with the crooked painting over the couch just did me in! Oh a couple of the older men remind me of my pdoc but none of them remind me of T. Wonder if that's good or bad?

The beds are analyst's couches, no? Analysts of the old school variety seem to only exist in Manhattan anyways.

Most were very creepy. One looked like a too-serious Drew Carrey which was odd.

I swear, one of them was Ian McKellen. I would have a problem with seeing him as Gandolf every time I looked at him.

My psychiatrist's office is cluttered like whoahh...! Funny really. She is also very competent.

My therapist's office is tidy, I prefer that.

Sounds like my pdoc. His desk is a disaster. One day I went in and could tell he had actually organized it; had to comment on it. My T is like fairly obsessively tidy; a place for everything and everything in its place. Night and day.

Interesting, thanks for sharing. I have a friend that's a T and his office looks cluttered, but not eccentric like some of those Pictures of their offices

All the men look either crazy or creepy (but that's also because I would never see a male therapist).
Out of the women, only 4 of them didn't elicit a "no way, nope" reaction in me.
This is really not good publicity at all, don't understand why these people agreed to be photographed.

I don't think these pictures have anything to do with publicity at all - they appear to be art photos.

I found a few of the offices very off-putting, and a couple of the therapists as well, but most of them were neutral or confidence inspiring to me. There were even a couple of females who looked as if I might consider seeing them for therapy (I don't work with female Ts - I've tried and it doesn't work) but again, portrait photography isn't a good indicator of personality, I think.

I enjoyed the photos, though. Photography is an art form I like very much.
Thanks for this!

even the more minimalist of those have too much going on for my liking, I would find them overstimulating and distracting. (says me who get distracted by the interesting looking clouds i see through the window)

I am very easily distracted by too much going on visually. I'm glad my T has a plain office. Desks that are tidy, couple chairs, table, and one picture on the wall that is not displeasing to the eye.

No window coverings which is good. The office faces another building that is pretty plain so it's acceptable to view.

I often stare at the carpet the entire time anyways.

Eta: I have no idea what colour the carpet is even though I stare at it weekly.

This is interesting. Those offices are so different than the ones my T's had. All the offices of every T I had, really looked like an office: plain, clean, organized. My current T's office is also like that. She does have a grouppicture and some cards on the wall, but nothing too personal. I think it's good, otherwise I would be too distracted by everything.

Right, all these people are psychoanalysts rather than psychotherapists - I missed that when I first looked at the pictures.
Thanks for this!
