I know that in pediatric populations it is due to cases of extreme neglect and maltreatment. What happens to those babies when they grow up if they make it to adulthood without intervention?

This is not really a psychotherapy question. Unless you are such a person or know someone like that and are considering whether they should seek treatment.

But for a general interest, have you done any research on this yourself? Perhaps some researchers followed up with these children long term and there might be papers written on the subject...

I fell into a stupor. My adoptive parents mistook it for bring a 'good' baby.
We becomes addicts, suffer clinical depressions. For some they become psychotic.

It is a phycotherapy question when my T brought it up. Kind of wish I took the blue pill and stopped looking.
