I am very stressed out and feel like im about to lose it. I think im getting pushed too much by my therapist. I need to get a job and she wants me to go job searching as much as I can and tell her about it every session. Job searching is one of the top stressful things for me. If I don't go job searching then the session is not very good and those sessions make me feel a lot worse for the rest of the day to the point where I become suicidal. Things at home are not too good and I want to move out really bad, but I don't have the money to. I want to see if I can get a medication change or something, but my therapist says im making progress and I don't need any. Im not so sure because I feel so stressed out and exhausted right now. I don't know if the therapy sessions are helping anymore. Shes resorted to positive thinking, which is not helping at all. So should I end therapy or talk it out with her? I have a feeling that if I do talk it out, nothing will even change. I am so lost right now.

Do you have the option to change therapists? It is strange that a T would put down medication use when studies have shown that using therapy with proper meds has the best outcomes.

Have you asked her to work differently with you?

It sounds hard working with someone whose goals differ from your own.

Yes I can change therapists.

Ive asked what else she knows and shes told me, but she said that CBT would be best for me. I honestly don't know if shes really doing CBT, it doesn't seem like it.

I'm not a fan of Ts dictating what you talk about in session since it's technically your time. I get that finding a job may be an important goal for you, but I'd think she'd want to explore he obstacles you have surrounding this topic and also alleviating you anxiety.

I also don't like it when Ts tell clients they don't need meds. They are not psychiatrists or nurses and are not in a position to say anything of the sort. Do you have the option of seeing a psychiatrist or a psychiatric nurse who can prescribe? If so I would make an appointment to see one and explore the med option with them- they are the ones who can tell you whether meds might help or not. Many psych nurses prescribe and do therapy so that's worth looking into also.

I had a T long ago who did didn't believe in meds and didn't want to hear anything about them during our session. I still went to a pdoc and went on meds but she was "disappointed" I guess. I also stopped seeing her after a little while. It may be worth it to you to find someone who can work with you not tell you what to do.
