I have SERIOUS impulse control issues. Like potentially life ruining ones.

Is anyone here on Vyvanse?

How do you like it? Side effects?

It's supposed to help with ADHD/binge eating/impulse control. Was gonna ask my Primary Dr. about it.

I used to be on it for ADHD. I lost about 20lbs in the first few months I was on it because it suppressed my appetite so much.
It was great for focus and emotional suppression (though I didn't realize that at the time). I switched to Adderall because of insurance - it worked almost the same for me. I weaned myself off it almost a year ago now. The stimulant effects became too much for me as my therapy progressed.

Eta: it made me clench my teeth like a madwoman. Made my jaw ache...

Do you have a psychiatrist or is that the primary doctor? Pdocs have more knowledge of these meds than general or family practice doctors. I take Adderall but have heard about it being a non stimulant version of Adderall, so it might be worth asking about.

I have been on Vyvanse for around a year an a half. I was prescribed it for fatigue and concentration as it was very difficult for me to stay awake during the day. My p doc also gave me a script for adderall if I wake up late or only need energy for part of the day (Vy. is supposed to work 12 hrs, Ad. is only 6hrs). Have not experienced much as far as side effects go. They were worried about appetite suppression bc of my eating disorder history but it never really became a problem. Can't speak to its aiding impulses as that was not something I have ever sought help for but it is worth a shot to try it.

OMG. I just realized that I was posting about my experience on Viibryd. LOL I've asked for that post to be deleted because it's lies, all lies.... Totally true about Viibryd though! Sorry for the confusion!!

Luckily I have been on both and can still comment.

Vyvanse made me not want to eat meat. It just seemed SO gross. Sadly, I still ate junk food because apparently chocolate never sounds gross to me. Vyvanse also brought on a spike in my excoriation issues and I started having some trich problems, which was a brand new issue to me at age 39. Pdoc said we may have overshot the ideal dose level for me on that one.

Wow pbutton I have had skin picking problems for quite a while but it has certainly gotten worse. I wonder if that has had anything to do with the vyvanse? I never would have connected the two...

You know, it might. My skin picking got really bad while I was on it. I had put it down to the stress of a new job where I had to be on the phone a lot, but it might have been the Vyvanse too...

I am so sorry to hear that! My pdoc said it was most likely related to the Vyvanse for me. I've always done a number on my fingers, but during that period of time it got REALLY bad. I was having a hard time getting dressed.
Thanks for this!

Yeah I have a lot of stress so it could absolutely be attributed to that. I have OCPD as well so compulsive behaviors are not unheard of for me. As I mentioned above I also take Adderall at times but that would probably have the same influence on picking that the vyvanse may....I just don't think I can give up stimulants entirely...I have terrible fatigue without them and it is extremely hard to accomplish anything.

I don't have the same picking problems with Adderall. I do have ankle swelling with Adderall. Dexadrine didn't affect my picking either, but it didn't do much for my inattentiveness. Ritalin knocked me out. To the point where I felt it would be a good idea to try to take a nap while stopped at a red light.

sigh. I just wanna be able to pay attention to stuff.
