My parents enrolled me to a free therapist program. I really like my therapist but she keeps forcing me to take psychiatric drugs by her conpany. She says she does the drug referrals to all people who get services.
I am nit interested in drugs treatment, I prefer speech therapy. Can Sh report me to police if I refuse the drugs, company has my paremts as emergency contacts, can they call my paremts legally and tell them I refuse drugs.my parent wont be happy if they found out I refuse companies drugs. Those are strong drugs Sh wants me to be on. Mitrazapine and haloperidole. I get that company wants to make money off clients by putting them on drugs, but I want to prove a point and refuse, but I am afraid police and my emergency contact parents will be involved/called. Therapist held it off for a week. Had my parnets not giving their numbers as emergency contacts, I would say I refuse. I am nit a threat or anything |

reason I as is because those are the only situations here in america that parents are legally able to sign their children up for mental health treatment. and this may also be a factor in this problem you are going through. if your parents are not appointed to make your mental health decisions you can just walk away or walk away then reenter the program if you choose when you are ready to do so on your own under your own choices. if your parents have the legal right to sign you up for this program then you will need to have their permission to stop the meds because they are the ones deciding what treatments you get. as for the company making you take the meds... if you are over 18 and your parents do not make your mental health decisions then you have every legal right to say no....but.....should you refuse then this company is well in their rights to kick you out of the program for non compliance with the program if they feel you need the meds for your mental problems. if they allowed you to go without your meds knowing without them you could harm yourself or others they can get arrested and prosecuted for not doing their job correctly should anything happen to you.... its a liability thing. kind of like if you were babysitting someone and you knew the person you were babysitting shouldnt do something because they can get hurt, but you allow them to anyway and they get hurt you get arrested...well mental health treatment is like that a treatment provider can be held responsible for knowingly allowing someone in a program to continue with the program even if they refuse the meds and end up getting hurt. ... my point is you can refuse the meds but they can turn around and refuse to keep you in the program if you are not going to follow the program and they believe you need the meds. they are not going to want to be responsible for your care if you are not going to follow what they want you to do. |

It depends on the situation. Are you a minor? If you are they can talk to your parents if they feel you are a danger to yourself or suicidal. Likewise they can contact the police as well even if you are an adult if they believe you are in Danger of hurting yourself or unable to take care of yourself.

She shouldn't be able to force you to take pills. Unless you are a danger to yourself, and have a court order/parental agreement with her saying so.
If you are a minor, then there are some things that you can't control, but I would definitely talk to your parents and explain to your therapist that you do not feel like you need medication. What would happen if you do not comply with your meds? I'm not saying to completely reject them, as you probably need them, but do you know if there is a contract that you signed or your parents signed saying you had to take meds?

Couple of questions:
1) You wrote, "she keeps forcing me to take psychiatric drugs by her conpany." What do you mean by "her company"? Is she an employee of a Drug company? What drug company are you referring to? No corporation can 'force' an individual to do anything against their will. Your therapist might recommend a drug to combat a specific disorder, and if you're a minor, your parents will need to approve but they can't 'force' you either. Has anyone told you why they want you to take these specific drugs? 2) "I am afraid police and my emergency contact parents will be involved/called." Why do you think the police would be involved at all? Police don't get involved with medication issues. Police only get involved if some behavior is disturbing the peace, or if violence is being committed against someone. 3) Why does the idea of taking these drugs bother you so much? Are you experiencing side effect that you don't like? What are they? Have you spoken to your Therapist about this? |

so when someone in my location uses the term company in mental health it usually means a mental health agency where they are getting their services... example here at the crisis center where I work (the company I work for) has a psychiatrist on staff who prescribes medications to those with in his caseload. the only time anyone sees a psychiatrist here in this company is for medication management sometimes one of this psychiatrists services is recommending therapy /providing therapeutic services. medication management, psychiatric (partial program, transitioning to out patient services or this treatment provider was their inpatient treatment provider and continueing therapy services with them), if theres anyone on this treatment providers caseload that refuses to follow the treatment plans they usually are terminated/ the case is closed. for liability purposes. you cant make an adult (unless a minor or has a guardian making the decisions) comply with treatment but the crisis center is not about to be held responsible if due to the non compliant clients legal rights and choices does something harmful to their self or others while choosing not to comply with treatment. they are always welcome to re enter the psychiatric services our psychiatrist at our company (the crisis center ) offers like meds management anytime they want to. anyway thats how we handle these kinds of situations here in my location. also police here in my location do get involved in cases that are non violent (that dont contain things likesuicidal, self injury, homicide...what ever). example well checks, (anyone can call in about anyone and say they are worried about that person maybe they havent heard from them in a few days, or their last conversation was a rough one, or that person just didnt seem like their self...) and the police will go find them and assess whether they are ok, if they have taken their meds or not, in a safe situation or need community services.) we even have situations where the cops get kitties out out of trees and other non violent situations where someone has called the cops for or about someone. |
