I think that I am incorrectly diagnosed by the mental health workers. I was previously diagnosed with OCD and PTSD. Now, all the mental health workers are saying is that I am schizophrenic. I do not think that I am schizophrenic but no matter what I really have the mental health workers are just saying that I am schizophrenic. They said since my father was abusive to me that I am schizophrenic. My father said he wanted to see my face on skid-row. My father also sexually abused me and emotionally abused me. Now because he abused me they are saying that I am schizophrenic. It really angers me because I am not getting the help I need. What can I do to get the help I need?

I really don't believe the sole reason for you to be dx with schizophrenia is CSA. Its not enough to meet the criteria. I do think from what you shared here that you suffer from splitting of reality and thought to say the least...

Unfortunately, most professionals take other professionals words over ours. Perhaps ask more questions? It is very unlikely for schizophrenia to be the obvious result to trauma so it is possible that there was some miscommunication going on. I don't know the specific system you are in but you can ask if you can get a referral... Have they said that you are having delusions or hallucinations?

I am sorry you were abused. Were you diagnosed by a Pdoc? I am not a doctor but From what you described you suffer from something that isn't just OCD. From my knowledge people with OCD are aware of their own illness, I have never met anyone with OCD who would deny they have it. and also in my knowledge delusions are uncommon with just OCD. Delusions and hallucination are usually symptoms of something else. You can request a second opinion

Honestly? Based on all of the posts you've made on here...... I can understand why your diagnosis would be changed to schizophrenic.
I think (and hope!) that maybe you're mishearing some of what they're saying. And this thread doesn't fully match up with your other thread on this part of the forum. In this thread, you're saying that the workers say you're schizophrenic BECAUSE you were abused. And the pdoc is denying that you were abused at all really? Those are.... well, opposite. And it's the pdoc who makes the diagnosis. What help do you think you need? What could they do to help you?

You should be able to discuss past abuse in therapy.
. I am not sure but most likely your abuse and your diagnosis are two different things. One didn't cause the other I think Perhaps mental health providers have trouble with you denying your diagnosis Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I think I've read that if someone has a genetic vulnerability for schizophrenia, then abuse can push that person over the edge. Kind of the nurture versus nature thing.

It is probably not a good idea to get into therapy about abuse while in psychosis. They are just trying to do what is best, I think. I really don't know if you were abused or not but dealing with the psychosis seems most important.

Hallucinations are psychosis...... unless you've taken hallucinogenic drugs.
Your mental health workers would be required to help with that first, before working with you on talking about your past. While it's totally a legit thing to talk about..... they might actually be trying to respect you, even if you don't see it that way. By discouraging the conversation, they may be trying to ensure that you disclose things when you're in a clear state of mind. When your mind clears, you might end up upset over how much you shared. Their first priority is to keep you safe in the present. Talking about the past isn't the present.

I am not a doctor but it seems unlikely. I have not heard of such cases. Are you taking your medications? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
