So I was seeing a psychologist in California for about 3 and a half years, for anxiety/depression/avoidant personality stuff.

Now I've moved to Tucson, AZ and I am STRUGGLING to find a new T. I did make an appointment with one T but after the first visit I knew he wasn't the right match. It also felt too much like I was trying to replace my last T. I am of course trying to replace him but I mean I don't want to feel like I am... if that makes any sense.

I think I would like a female T this time, so it's not so much like I'm trying to replace my last T who was a male. I've made contact with several T's but they are often not seeing new clients, not taking the insurance I have, or just not able to see me outside usual work hours (8:00 to 5:00 weekdays).

Just such a huge struggle to find a new T.
I'm really starting to miss my old T and I wish he could just be transplanted here. I don't like talking on the phone, so I refuse to do phone appointments or Skype.

Can you ask former therapist if he can get a referral for you? They do network.

Also, if I recall my AZ geography from grad school, Phoenix is only an hour away, and that city seemed lousy with therapists when I was there.

Thanks for this!

Prior T. tried to find me someone here before I moved, but he didn't have much luck either. I have an appointment with another new T this Friday, so my fingers are crossed. I'm about to the point where I'm going to email old T and ask him if he can ask his associates again if they know anyone to recommend here.

Did you look for one on Psychology Today therapist directory?
I moved to the Tucson area two years ago and looked a bunch up on psychology today directory and interviewed quite a few. I have to say there are a TON of psychologists, LCSWs, Marriage & Family Therapists and Mental Health Counselors listed for the Tucson area directory. Can't say that I can give you a specific recommendation because I'm not sure what's important to you in finding one, but you should be able to email or phone a variety of different therapists based on your personal preferences. Welcome to southern AZ!
