I had a psychological evaluation back in 2009. My current therapist said that I might need to get a new one. What is the purpose of a psychological evaluation?

This is a response I posted on a recent thread about the same question:

"This kind of evaluation can indeed tease out various psychological or psychiatric issues - distinguish between this one and that one. The good news about that is that it can guide treatment more accurately.

How long the testing is depends on how far he wants to go with it. If it's really thorough it can take several different appointments. It can include some type of intelligence testing, personality testing, projective testing (like Rorschach), and interviews."

a psychological evaluation is a series of tests that will be able to diagnose what your mental disorders are so that you can get the right treatments that will help you to feel better and help clear up some of your problems that you may be having.
