I've been seeing this awesome therapist for a little over 2 months now, and I think I need to wrap it up with her. I can't afford to see her anymore since she charges $100 per session and doesn't take insurance. I have learned so much from her and I'm pretty stable at the moment. My husband is just working part time now and the money situation is tight. I will really miss her. I sent her an email saying that we could pick back up when my husband gets a new job, which will hopefully be soon.

I also emailed my DBT therapist and asked for an appointment. She takes my insurance, so I have no copay. I haven't been seeing her since I started with my other therapist. I would really like to learn DBT and I tried a DBT group and got really frustrated with it. I learn better one to one. In the email I asked her what a good DBT book would be. My other therapist recommended DBT for Bipolar, but I figure a DBT therapist would know more.

I know I need therapy to stay stable, I just hope I'm making the right decision.

it makes sense what you are doing. i took dbt in group. it was a beginners group for 8 weeks. i took it three times. im bipolar and ptsd with dissociation. i did not like the group process either and had problems with the class due to the ptsd...meditation was difficult...but it did wonders for my emotional regulation. i used to go from 0-60 i called it and after taking that class 3x over, the skills just became a part of my life. i cant even tell you what i do because i know i dont do it properly, the mindfulness way, but i learned enough about owning my emotions and regulating them that they no longer get out of control. good luck to you.

Did your T reply to your email yet?

Might be too late now but I would have suggested asking her if she did/could do some sort of discounted rate, temporarily, so you could still see her. With the understanding that you'd pay her full rate as soon as your financials allow it + that you'd make up for the discounted rate as well (either on weekly or monthly basis etc).

Yes, we are going to put therapy on hold, but she said I can email her with questions if I need to. I emailed my shaman and asked her if I could just pay for her part. My shaman has really played an integral role in my healing. I haven't heard from my other therapist.
