Last session my t and I talked about some really challenging topics. I opened up and told her a whole range of personal things that I could never have imagined talking about. Her response was so good and I left the building feeling much relieved. While I was embarrassed talking about those things at the time, I feel so much closer to her now that she knows about that part of me. I was able to be honest and vulnerable with my t and I feel so much better for having done that.

Have you had a moment of realisation that something has made you feel closer to t?

Yes, actually, and it too involved some sketchy disclosures. Good feeling, isn't it?

Yes. Last week, I was telling my T that I tend to expect the worse from people, that if they don't answer, I immediately jump to the conclusion that they no longer love me.
And my therapist said, softly," yes I'm the same".
It's moments like these, when she becomes vulnerable in order to relate to my experience, that I feel closest to my therapist.

When my T shares something about herself that helps with what I am going through I always feel closer to her. The crisis that I have been in has brought us closer. I have shared some deep dark intimate thoughts with her. She has also seen me at my worse and at my best. I think all of that brings you closer.

When she says it makes her sad that I'm hurting so much.

No, I have not had that sort of experience where a therapist was involved.
