Like sending an sms wishing a merry christmas, or a happy new year... and things like that... ?
I wanted to send an sms, but they also have other clients and if everyone sends them messages they would be spammed and also their private time would be intruded upon... So I didn't. |

No - I did not. The therapist has real people and I have real people to do that sort of thing with. There would be no reason for a therapist to need or want that sort of thing from me nor do I have any desire to do it.

I do that sort of thing in person usually at the end of the session while I'm leaving, before a holiday or something significant I want to acknowledge.

I might say it as I was leaving the session just before the holiday, but I wouldn't send them a text or email just to say that.

I wish my therapist happy holidays and bring him a gift on our last sessions before winter breaks. I usually don't send other texts / emails because I feel as if we already celebrated Christmas together.
Personally, given that my therapist is generally okay with outside of session contact, I wouldn't worry about sending a holiday wishes message if I felt like it - I'm sure not all his clients do that and they're not unmanageably many anyway, and personally I think good wishes are always welcome at special times like these. But it depends on your specific therapeutic relationship (as well as the therapist - I'm sure a therapist who never allows out of session contact or who has too many clients would not be so pleased). I was actually thinking of wishing my therapist a happy new year via text this year but I'm not sure about it yet - not sure if I want to send any wishes this year. I'll live and see ... |

Not by text or email. At the end of last session she wished me happy holidays and I wished her the same.

My therapist doesn't celebrate Christmas, and I don't know much about her religion's holidays. So, no I don't.
