and she's not even my doctor, she's my daughter's! This has come up before with my own therapists; I know I am hungry for someone to show me (us) compassion and kindness and feel like someone cares. Her new psychiatrist is really excellent. I just feel uncomfortable how much I look forward to the visits.

It is okay to enjoy people who give us validation like that. Ideally we would have all the people in our lives (and ourselves be) like that :-) I would enjoy, copy, and study the psychiatrist and see if I couldn't give/get to/from others in my life like she does.

I really look forward to my psychiatrist visits. Sometimes I think it is because I have a bit of a crush on my shrink, but I think it has more to do with the attention I receive from him. Really, he focuses on me and my problems. He is understanding and his purpose is to help me. I can let my guard down and just talk about me and my problems. More than anything he accepts me just the way I am—he is one of the few people who truly understands my mental issues and accepts me as a good human being. It feels good to be understood and accepted.
