I just want to insert a bit of positivity into the forum...
It has been a great deal of hard work but CBT has thus far been quite positive. It has given me skills to manage and soothe my anxiety and raised my self esteem. I faced a great deal of personal challenges that coincided with the course that I may otherwise would have not dealt with very well. As I come to the end of the program I realise I am a changed person - though the hard work will have to continue throughout my life if I am to maintain the positivity. I realise it is not for everyone. Some may struggle with the great deal of homework involved and challenging one's negative core beliefs may be just too painful for others. If you are unabale to find a therapist trained in CBT I recommend one of the many self-help workbooks out there - and actualy complete the work. |

I agree that CBT can be incredibly helpful. I did a program of CBT for social phobia a few years ago, and it took me from being practically agoraphobic to being able to go out to meetings where I didn't know anyone. I've also used it to work on other areas of my life that are problematic.

My CBT skills are the part of therapy that I have found I have taken with me and use most often now that I am no longer in therapy.

Yay for positivity! And for CBT! I have also found it enormously helpful. I'm glad things are going well for you; you should be proud of all the hard work you've done!

My CBT T isn't strictly CBT but he is way more goal oriented than the T's I've had in the past. It is useful to have a focus.
