I have a name that is usually spelled one way, but mine is spelled another (not particularly uncommon, but less common) way. When I first went to my T I took my referral from my doctor on which my name was spelled wrongly. Later, I corrected it with that doctor - by writing a letter to correct their records - but T still spells it wrong. I have texted multiple times with my name but whenever she texts she spells it wrong! Also, my subsequent referrals have my correct name.
I know this shouldn't bother me. But it doesn't feel like my name. It feels very impersonal and distant when she uses the wrong name. It's been like this my whole life, something that has always irritated me. Should I forget it? Would any of you feel a bit bad if T didn't notice the spelling of your name? How should I hint to her? I thought I had done enough ending so many texts with my actual name. I have also tried using my nickname, a shortened version of the name, which wouldn't matter if she spelled it wrong. Most people call me by my nickname actually. But she insists on using my full name, maybe to be more formal? |

I would just tell her she is misspelling your name if I were you; no reason to feel bad about correcting her! And if you prefer to be called by your nickname, I would tell her that as well.

I wouldn't hint about it, I'd tell her directly. It would bother me too, but this is one of those things that I'd have no problem correcting her about as I would want to know if I had been incorrectly spelling someone's name. And even though you have your name on the texts you send to her, it's not something she'll probably pick up; I know I probably wouldn't as I read texts quickly and if I know who sent it I'd probably not even look at their name on the text. If you are in her phone contact by name, she probably sees the misspelled name (bc she added you as a contact) and never notices the correct spelling within the text. To me, this is one of those, "hey, do you know you've been spelling my name wrong? " kind of things.
