I hate the receptionist I just talked to. I wanted to make an appointment and she said they had nothing until July (this is the biggest clinic in my city) and I really need some help.
She said there was nothing we can do, I asked for suggestions of other clinics and she just told me to deal with it myself. She was very rude and it makes me not even want to try again. I just want help and feel like giving up. |

Obviously you don't want to go there. But there are other clinics, and the next one you call could be the one for you. Don't give up! Rude receptionists are a very common complaint on this forum. I would try an independent T. They have to answer their own phones. __________________ Mr Ambassador, alias Ancient Plax, alias Captain Therapy, alias Big Poppa, alias Secret Spy, etc. Add that to your tattoo, Baby! |

That sucks that the receptionist was so rude. I'm sorry. Don't give up though, I'm sure other people will be helpful and kind. I've luckily only dealt with nice people involved with therapy and psychiatry and whatnot, so they are definitely out there. And one way you could find suggestions for other places is through your insurance. I think insurance can give lists of places they cover, and then you'd be able to call a couple of those and see if you'd want to go to them.

I called another place and they said they aren't taking on any new clients. I feel absolutely hopeless. I don't even know why I tried to get help because it doesn't even seem possible.
It took me forever to gain the courage to try to get help and now i can't find any. |

How frustrating! I'm assuming this is for a psychiatrist? I remember how difficult it was to try to get an initial appointment. But July? That's crazy! Definitely keep looking. It isn't unusual to have to schedule 6-8 weeks out for an initial appointment, but 5 months is ridiculous. You might go ahead and make an appointment just in case, but keep looking. You can always cancel this one.

Receptionist in my t's clinic is incompetent and t told me to always go through her not through receptionist. Receptionists in my gyn office are even worse. They are incompetent and rude. Now this isn't medical but still both my nail place and hair place have awful receptionists. It seems to be a common trait . For a change secretaries in my school district are great, but there are an exception in my experience

I found my most recent T though psychology today dot com...it was great, I could plug in the criteria and my insurance and acrabadaba presto I had a list to choose from. I emailed a few like the way this one answered. They have both therapist and psychritist listings. It's a place to start.

I can definitely relate. my T left in November and it has taken me months of calling around, leaving messages, and talking to rude T's before just getting an appointment on the books. I haven't even see the T yet; I'm still waiting the three weeks until the appointment happens. Even then, she could choose not to see me-- and I'd have to start calling all over again. It's awful!

My standby therapist will most likely retire in about a year. After hearing some of your experiences on the forum, I don't look forward to the task. So today, I asked my ex therapist to think about who she'd recommend, or as she meets others to let me know, so I could start vetting them now. I don't think I'll ever need one again, but you never know. Things happen.
Sorry that it's not an easier path for you. |

It's not uncommon to wait that long, though!
