My therapist canceled, at one time, two consecutive sessions with me. Therapist apologized for the disruption, acknowledged the bad timing. That is, the last session we had was one in which I think I was pushed forward through something like the seven stages of grief. I remember being upset at the end of that session, and we were both aware of the atypical feeling of, well, sort of having had a tough session. But as the intervening week went by, I felt as though I appreciated the therapists "tough love" and was looking forward to the next session, to talk openly about my feelings. The night before we were to have the next session (six days forward) therapist canceled that session and the following one. Gave me two options for a replacement session during regular hours, neither of which I could make. When you think about it, this is three supposed coincidences in a row... the rough session, followed by two canceled ones. Seem odd?

Rough sessions happen all the time. Why did she cancel? It would be helpful to know that.

I don't think she has some ulterior motive, but I question her pushing you through something you weren't ready for.

When they canceled, did the Therapist or office offer a contingency plan for an emergency?
Thanks for this!

I agree with atat, I'd be concerned/annoyed about the cancellations but personally I don't think it's connected to a rough session, some clients have every session pretty full on, I think she would be used to that. Has she said why she cancelled? My T normally gives a reason.

Therapist canceled the evening before saying she was sick, and said had "an issue" with the following session. (We have a standing, weekly session at a set time.) Inquired if I could come in in the morning on one of two days as a substitute but I couldn't. T said, understood that this was "bad timing", and apologized for the "disruption".

Bad timing, but I don't think it had anything to do with you. Just bad timing. She did offer you other sessions which is good, it just didn't work out for both of your schedules. Hopefully things will get back on track now.
Thanks for this!
