I have a therapist and I've been with her for about a month or so now. I don't know if she will formally diagnose me with something, or just not. Do they normally diagnose people? Do I just need to ask for that?

As far as I know therapist only diagnose you if you fit a diagnostic criteria for a mental illness. I see you are in the US so maybe you need a diagnosis for insurance but I don't know about such things.

I think you have to ask for a diagnosis cause everyone is different. tc

I believe they will at least come up with a diagnosis for insurance purposes. I would ask her though. She may initially start with one diagnosis especially if you have a previous diagnosis. Then as time goes by and she gets to know you more she may change her diagnosis. For a few years my T had one diagnosis and psych np had another. Eventually I mentioned it to psyh np and she agreed with T.

What type of therapist do you have? Here, only psychologists and psychiatrists can legally diagnose you. For example, my therapist can't diagnose me because his degree is in social work. |

Here too. But we don't have insurance in the same way.
