I'm sure those of you who have read my posts know that I currently see two therapists. I see one through a community mental health center, and have been seeing him for almost 3 years now. The other one I have only been seeing since October, and I see her 2x through another place.
Ts know about each other, but they don't collaborate. I also go to a depression group on Tuesday mornings, and I started a 14 week domestic violence survivor group that's on Thursday mornings. After my last session with my T1, he asked if I wanted a recurring weekly appointment with him, and of course I said yes. The problem is that the only day I really have available is Thursdays, which is the day the day I also see T2 in the evenings, and the day that I have the DV group now in the mornings. So now, on Thursdays I have T1, then DV group, and every other week T2 in the evenings. I feel like it's going to be way too much for me in one day, but I don't have time any other part of the week. What would you do? Would you stop seeing T2, or just use the extra support for the next 2-3 months? |

I think one probably can have too much therapy. But it's nothing I would want to put a hard and fast rule on (as in X amount is too much). I mean, if the alternative is doing heroin, I say go to therapy seven days a week.
That said, two sessions with two different therapists plus a group does seem, as you noted, a bit much. Maybe take a break from one of the T's until another day opens up for you?

I have had two therapy sessions, or a therapy session and a psychiatrist appointment (the woman insists on doing therapy at me too even though she is horrible at it) on the same day several times. It is way too much, for me anyway.
Could you wait till your 14-week group was over to start double appointments every other Thursday? |

If I schedule my pdoc and t in the same day it's too much for me.

Depends on where you are within yourself.
When I first entered recovery, i covered myself in healing tools. I begun to know after about 18months what I could afford to let go. |

Depends on the type of therapy too. I see my T 3 times a week and that's considered minimal for an analyst.

I've been having a really hard time lately, but I don't know if continuing to see both of three is the best thing for me right now.

Depends entirely on you Amy. Do you need all of this support right now? Sounds as though it is helping you? I think if it is helping you to survive why the hell not, as somebody said you and only you will know when it is too much and when to wind down.

Things got better for me when I kept things simple. I do think there is a thing as too much therapy (it's exhausting and can get confusing and stressful), but of course it's a different threshold for each person.

At least with T1, he can email the group Ts I have or talk to them in person, so they all know what's going on. T2 doesn't have all that access, so she's more separate. I think for now I'll just do the 2 groups and T1 until my other group is done or unless T1 spaces our appointments out farther again. |

I do as much therapy as you, but my insurance gets messed up if I see 2 in one day so I do different days to avoid paperwork problems. T1 told me to do this because it gets confusing.
