So it took a lot of browsing on Psychology Today, but I found my potential new therapist, and it is awesome. We talked over the phone -- mostly she wanted to know my general backstory, and I wanted to know her approach to things (which apparently includes EMDR, which is also awesome), but she seemed respectful of my feelings, kind, informative, and even said that I don't need to remember everything that happened to me in order for me to treat my symptoms. Which...thank Christ, honestly. I think my only issue right now is distance, but hopefully it won't be very far.
Thanks for this!

Great!

My only recommendation is that you be proactive and set expectations (from both sides) from the beginning. Sit down and have a chat with the T about what you wish to accomplish. What will success look like? Will this then be ongoing or will there be an agreed upon time or health marker that therapy will come to an end? What are acceptable modes of communication. Get as much upfront as you can in order to avoid misunderstandings, conflict, and disappointment.

I have lucked out and have a great working relation ship with my psychiatrist and with my T when I still had one. It occurs to me though this is due in part to having such conersations with them from the get go.
Thanks for this!

justafriend306: Thanks! I'll definitely do that. So far, I'm trying to get some clearance with my current therapist (as I have to find good times and a good day of the week to talk), but I'll make sure to set the ground rules. Also going to be taking a leaf out of The Courage to Heal (let's say I've been using that book and others as a way of coming to grips with what I've got) and bring up my doubts in therapy, considering that I have a ton of them.

Annielovesbacon: Thanks! I'll definitely do that.
