What do you do after a session, if anything?
I drive home really fast and have about five cups of tea. One after the other, not all at once
Thanks for this!

I meet friends for a drink or walk the dogs with a friend. They don't know where I have been.

I exercise, but I'm not sure I do that because of therapy, it's just the appointments are usually before my regular gym time.

So I would say I cope by going about my daily life.

I used to eat a lot of chocolate. Miraculously, after my mother died this summer, i dont need so much chocolate. That would be an atheist miracle, not sure what those are called

I plan about an hour to just either sit in my car and decompress and/or write about the session. Sometimes I sleep after session because I'm too exhausted to drive home. Once I get home I'm usually pretty out of it and just stare off into space.

I never really had the luxury of "recovery" time after sessions as I have always gone home to a house full of boys, dinner to prepare, laundry to do, places to go, etc. I think in a way being that busy helped me get grounded and back to reality so I didn't spend too much time feeling overwhelmed after sessions -- just didn't have the time. Generally, a few hours later, when things were finally winding down on the homefront I would take some time to reflect on the session. I actually think the space of time between the session and actually taking time to think about it probably helped in the long run now that I think about it. It gave me time to find a bit of balance and calm first (which is ironic I realize because coming home to family business would not seem calming, but it is to me I guess).
Thanks for this!

T's office is over an hour away from my home. So, I listen to music that appeals to whatever mood I am in and drive it out. Sometimes I listen to sad music and cry. Other times I listen to angry music and yell. Sometimes I get my praise on to some worship music. Just depends.

I am lucky in that my appointments are in Saturday and only a mile to the office, so I walk there which helps clear my mind and ease any anxiety. My downtown area is close by, so I usually walk around after which does help. Sometimes I get myself something to eat as a treat.

I usually go home and walk my dog or take her out in the yard to play for an hour or so and I don't think about session at all during that time. I just completely focus on something else, and then later in the evening after my session I'll reflect on it. If it's a particularly hard session, I have gone home and fallen asleep right away. The days I hate the most are when I have to go straight from my session to work. It doesn't happen all the time because I've expressed to my t that it's too stressful to go straight from seeing her to work, but when I do have to, I'm usually in a terrible mood with customers for the first couple hours

I drive the 30 to 40 minutes home...listening to music...sometimes crying...

I am usually no fun to be around for about 24 hours because I'm processing the session.
If I come up with questions or relevant information I usually give T a follow up email.

I go to work straight after my therapy session. I take the public transport and it takes about 40 minutes to reach work so during that time I listen to music, it helps me clear my head and so I can show up at work somewhat ready to be productive.
Otherwise, I think I'd just sleep as I often find sessions exhausting.

I never have the time to recover from a session other than the 10-15 minute drive home and blare the music. Other than that I come home to a house full of kids and my husband and go on with my day.

I normally go out to dinner with my family. Then when I get home, I'm so mentally drained that I go to sleep.

I do like a glass of wine and some rock and roll on a Wednesday evening after therapy. Might not be the healthiest option in the world, but there it is.

For me it depends on how hard the session was. Sometimes I come home and cry and write my T an email. Other times it helps me to come home and follow my routine for the day. Usually I will listen to our session (I record them) and I will write down everything that is said by both of us in my therapy journal and really process the session more.

If my session is in the evening, I take public transportation for an hour to go home, then I usually sleep.

If I have work after therapy, I try to use the one hour public transport commute to put therapy aside so I can focus on work.

I am not disturbed after therapy session and just do what I normally do. Typically. I see last appt a day so I just go home tired. Even if I was upset I just go on. My life has been so busy lately that there is no time to recover.

Sometimes I like to drive around after a session and just think about stuff. One time this led me to almost getting hit by a car because I was distracted though, so maybe I should find another thing to do.

I said "alcohol," but after reading some responses, I should have just said "other." I'll spend the 15-minute ride home listening to music and sometimes crying, depending on what the session was about (and sometimes I just have the weepiness in response to seeing my marriage counselor because I feel connected to him and then know I won't see him for another week). Depending on the time, I'll often have a beer when I get home. If it's earlier in the day, I might go get something from Starbucks. I sometimes will e-mail my T, either to recap a session with MC or to share some insight I had on the drive home.

In the summer, I swim (outdoor pool). When it's too cold to swim I write, sometimes a lot, or pop in a CD and sing loudly.
